OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

That deal is going to suck in final 5 years

It's sort of, sort of like the Bautista deal in that he'll be so good over the first chunk of it, that if you're paying for him to suck for a few years at the end, his 7-8 WAR at 2nd base for the first 4-5 years, going by the 1 WAR = 5 million in salary scale, would be worth 35-40 million a year, never mind it coming from a position that is generally an offensive wasteland.

Even then, if he can transition into being a 3-4 WAR DH (for reference, Edwin has been a ~5 the last 2 seasons) until the last 2 years of his deal, he'll be worth the money right up until year 8 or 9.

Of course, this is a move you make when you're trying to win a championship, so if they do....then **** the money.

If you treat it as 6M/WAR now, which increases by 250k per year, and treat him as a 6 WAR player who declines by 0.5 WAR per year (which are both probably slightly easier assumptions than some people would use for him), Then his value is roughly 250-260M over the next 10 years, which would make the 10/240 deal actually a good value. And that's if he's only a 6 WAR player next year (he was 6 last year, 7.7 the year before)

#Mets have a 4-yr agreement with Curtis Granderson, the Post has learned

the thing with cano is that if he loses bat speed, which is typical with age, his value as a dh diminishes. he has great power for a 2b and good power overall, but if he loses some points on his BA and falls back into the 20 hr range you're only looking at an ~800 ops bat. which is of course good, but not great.

there's also the seattle park factor to take into account. yankees stadium is kind to left handed hitters. safeco isn't kind to anybody.

The Jay Z factor is real here. He a NY icon and I find it hard to beleive that he will have his fisrt major client not sign in NY.

not to mention that granderson's 2 year split is hurt by the fact that he is coming off of his worst season in years, in which he suffered the first major injury of his career (broken bones, i.e. nothing that should hamper him long term) after 9 basically healthy seasons...

i can't beleive the yanks paid $7mn per for the next 4, plus an extra 3-4 years to replace granderson with ellsbury.

horrible move.

I like this move for Seattle even if the last few years are troublesome.

I assume they are going to keep the wallets open and add a SP (price) and OF ( Choo, Kemp, Cruz)

One thing to note about the M's is that their local TV-Deal begins in 2014 and is 2Billion over 17 years

btw...If Scott Feldman is getting 3/30 the Jays will not be signing any UFA SP unless its some really cheap bargain 1-2 year deal in late January

Tigers and Red Sox want Choo too....his agent has set his client up niceley.

Nelson Cruz could be a wise gamble for one of these teams.

Mariners looking for OF too
