OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Look for Snakes to DFA Zach Godley. Reeks of Shatkins
Guys like Godley or Gohara are absolutely who we should be targeting. Cheap assets who if you can figure out why they started failing and can fix them, you can get a mid-rotation arm or better for free.

yeah I mean you gotta take that shot.

but if his velo doesn't come back, then it likely won't work out.

Atkins/Shaprio still suck and I don't like them.

But I've been watching the Jays the last week or so and they sure have been fun. The young guys have been great.

David Paulino (part of the return for Osuna) was DFA’d to make room for Godley

An instructive point for me is that organizations who didnt give a **** about the personal problems of elite relievers are tied for 1st in the AL.

Eat the bad publicity and worry about putting the best team possible on the field. You dont get awards for being progressive.

Meh.

I know you're got no issue with dudes who beat their wives/girlfriends to a bloody pulp playing for your favourite sports teams, but this is one instance where I actually agree with Shatkins.

**** Osuna.

You're either in the winning business or you're not.

Nobody puts an asterisk next to the Yankees world series win or even mentions chapman waving a ****ing gun around anymore. It was controversial for 5 minutes and then the perpetually offended found something else to tweak them.

Giles has been pretty damn good too. If only he wasn't hurt last week should have been able to get a solid return for him.

Or sn Anthony Kay

Yes, wishful thinking but it would be nice if someone other than Atkins was responsible for trading Giles in the off-season. Even someone internal like Cherrington or Tinnish or Sheehan or whoever is responsible for the amateur scouting side (where they seem to be successful). Atkins really seems to target guys that had prospect shine two or three years ago but have since shown their limits (McKinney, Drury, Kay, Paulino, Perez, Fisher, etc). I guess they're hoping they are buying "low" on another team's talent, but so far that has yet to bear any fruit.

Realistically, he's got at least 3 more years though, so hopefully whatever weak return they get for Giles has at least some upside in it.

How do you know its Atkins and not a collective effort?

I'm disappointed in a lot of the moves too but some of the stuff people make up to get even more mad is hilarious.

Sure, it's not Atkins on his own, but he is the GM.

The Jays have a few very capable guys (some that pre-date Atkins). And they look very competent on the amateur side. The pro side, not so much. Atkins likely has a hand in both, but he is singularly responsible for trade outcomes, and he fails badly on that front.

Eh, I think that runs way too much cover for shapiro. AA had a good quote on his way out the door where he mused if he would be able to make minor moves (like the gose trade) without getting daddies approval. This suggests that the answer is no. Shapiro is rubber stamping everything and ensuring it all aligns with his general baseball philosophies.

Which are stupid philosophies.
