OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

What do we think of a Reese McGuire? I’ve always seen a backup C based on his minor league record of solid D and no bat. But he seems to be able to hit MLB pitching, I don’t know. Catchers are hard to predict. Maybe Reese can play.

He was highly thought of as a prospect, taken 1-14 in 2013. Didn't hit much in the minors but yeah, he wasn't terrible with the Jays in 2018 or 2019 either. Probably still a backup on a heater though.

He always had the bones of a good hitter - nice bb/k plate discipline and solid contact numbers.

For most of his milb career he had zero power until a big surge in AA. That was probably Park effects but even then he has at least maintained more power in AAA and MLB than he did in the lower minors.

Right now he's riding an unsustainable BABIP heater but even when that cools off he still has a chance to be just a bit below league average as a hitter - which for a plus defensive C can actually be a very valuable player. Even a decent starter.

More likely he's just a good backup tho.

Ohtani is unreal. First AB at Yankee stadium and he hits a ball 117.2mph for a HR.

And he is the starting pitcher on Wednesday.
He steals bases too. He'd be a true 30-30 threat if he stopped hitting HR and hit more singles. Especially with his pitching also improving of late (early season he was running into a lot of troubles with walks), literally been 100 years since there's been an MLB season like this.

Not sure why.

Unless they're trading away a grichuk or gurriel for pitching.

Basically Cory is a league averagish bat with passable defense in LF. Some platoon split but not much anymore. Not enough to expect a significantly above average bat even if used only against RHP.

Cimber = low velocity no-K reliever who has managed to put up above average numbers in relatively full duty the past 4yrs

Panik for Dickerson is just swapping bottom of the roster guys, so not a big deal, and yet it makes no sense to trade an IF for an OF.

Likely more moves coming. Calling up Smith or Urena, maybe trading one of Gurriel or Grichuk.

So the trade is actually for Cimber, who seems like a legit solid reliever. We get him for free because we take on the injured Dickerson's salary.

i like it.

the kind of move we should have done a few weeks ago and that we should do again very soon.

Manny TSN mentioned Cimber as a submarine reliever ….. what does that mean ?

Me thinks Gurriel is gonzo
