Wait, so Dante Jr. didn't make it?
This may explain why I didn't know a Dante Jr. existed till today. No, he only made it up to like AA or so. Looking at bbref, Dante Jr also crushed rookie ball (.340ish avg, .950ish OPS over 2 part seasons), but then never did much once he hit minor league ball. I think that's part of the reason why some people discounted Bo coming up - Dante Jr was a little older, and was already starting to flame out in the minors, so some people figured that Bo might simply end up in the same path. I know Bo's scouting reports coming up were often of a "he's hitting great in the minors, but will it translate?"

Made me sad honestly that there is that kid saying his favorite player is his little brother, and he doesn't get anywhere and little bro does.Dante Sr. had an unorthodox swing, but that wasn't so uncommon in those days. Watch a guy like Albert Belle set up in old video, you do not see anyone do anything like that anymore. I believe Dante Jr. also had his own approach but they tried to bang it out of him in pro ball, like they do with almost everyone. The Jays development team was very smart to leave Bo alone. His weird leg kick until he has 2 strikes and then very short stride after 2-strikes is something that you haven't really seen since the late 80s. He's unconventional and it works for him. Maybe Dante Jr. was just born a few years too soon or drafted by the wrong organization.
You don't feel bad for the older brother who wasn't able to make it? Dad and little bro were both stars, while he never got a sniff of MLB action. And he was obviously a great kid, saying what he did about Bo, instead of just saying something obvious like Pujols or something. It's this insanely cute family story and I'm sure that Dante Jr. is extremely proud of his little brother. I'm a bit sad that it makes you sad.
I mean, he's not homeless on the street and battling to survive, but I think falling short of expectations can damage a soul.Coming from a rich family, getting paid 750K at 19 yr sold and playing a childrens game for money without having to worry about finances isn't a bad way to spend your early to mid 20's man.
Especially considering the fact that he'll walk into a scouting or front office job as soon as he's done with minor league ball.
I don't think you're appreciating just how rare even having his level of career is. He's had about 1 million dollars in career earnings from baseball, and he's not even 29 yet.
Yeah, not great, but he's probably in the 99th percentile of MLB drafted talent even if he never made it to AAA. The sad cases are the guys who barely make anything out of the draft and then struggle in the minors making under min wage for a decade, before giving up and having very few other talents since they basically skipped uni.
