OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

By far the biggest sticking point

Not sure how they decide UFA/RFA or based on age

You cant have decent players like Pillar waiting to 30 to get a decent pay day

Fix the minors as well , too many players starving

Yeah, MLB's entire set up is pretty fucked. Indentured servitude until you make the league, paid a tiny fraction of what you're worth until you're in your late 20's on average...and then bloated, inefficient retirement contracts that often return shit value the second you become a free agent. It works for no one other than the superstars that can demand big money in arby and then uber pay days later.

I mean, we can look at someone like Steven Matz and say "but he's about to get 40 million dollars, how does this system not work for him"? Well, he's 30 yrs old, has been an average middle rotation guy in 141 career starts, has been worth 8 career WAR (1 war = roughly 10 million dollars) and to date has made 12.5 million in career earnings (including his draft signing bonus) over a 13 year professional career. If his elbow had flown apart this year he would gone down as having a well above average MLB career and had made relative dick.

I think Boras needs a little bit of a sanity check. He's always been out there, but man, the comments at the bottom about his players reads more like a Beaverton article than something serious.

He is a whiny bitch , only reality check is to hit in the wallet with his players

MLB’s minimum salary is 570K.
NHL is what, 700K?

Even raising the MLB minimum to 1.5-2 million would get rid of a lot of the problem. Arbitration pay awards would go way up and there would be more incentive to pay players early.

Good post , even a mil would be fine

At least a decent player could carve out a good living over a decade with minimal yearly raises

Half the league starves right now which is nonsense

Very surprised, but a great move.

Presumably this includes this arbitration year, and 6 years of would be FA? Makes it more like a 6/130 extension, which is reasonable.
