OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I assume the Jays interest is at the very least in the "they're interested in everyone with years of control left" levels. I can't imagine the team goes much out of their way for him, as mentioned given the fit is sketchy at best.
It would be nice if "is this player good" entered the equation at all.

India is just interesting enough and controlled/cheap long enough where he wont be given away. So the return wont be nothing, he was shifted off 3B pretty damn quick in Cincy so there is no real reason to think he can play that position here, and he's posted b3b seasons with sub 100 WRC+. I feel like we have a glut of this kind of player with Biggio/Schneider/Barger whatever.

Like i knoiw 3B is shallow, but id almost rather no bat whatsoever (IKF) than a meh bat and no glove. FFS.

As a 3b, I think Espinal is probably better than him.

I see India probably more as a like platoon DH filler, or someone you get if you either don't trust Schneider or want to cash in and trade Schneider to fill another spot. I like that India puts up a good OBP, but with no real defensive value I don't see the fit.

He's pretty much useless.

I guess in a world where he's dirt dirt cheap, and Schneider is required in a trade for a 3B/LF then he can platoon 2B with Biggio, but really, can we just not with an addition like this?

India has a decent bat but I think his 2B defence is terrible. He would be another years-of-control acquisition who is only useful if he has some previously unlocked gear which isn’t yet evident. I don’t think he’d come cheap either.

If Cincy is shopping him to Toronto, they probably think they can get an elite prospect back. And maybe they could from this admin.

a 99 WRC is decent? for a guy with maybe the worst 2B glove in MLB, for like the 4th most important position of need? You cant convince me that Biggio/Schneider isnt better offensively and defensively.

I get that India had a nice stick in his rookie year, but he's porbably positionless as an everyday guy. Literally the dumbest possible rumor.

I thought we were going to close this thread?

One of my clients is one of the tv sportscasters here, and I spoke to him yesterday and he was like - in a totally sincere way, not like he wanted to rub it in or anything - "Did you think Ohtani was really going to go to the Jays?"

And I was like, "no".

Embarrassment.

Yep, he’s projected at 106wrc+, has some power and no platoon split. Probably the definition of a “decent bat”. Technically he’s a 2B, so that would play well there but as noted, his D is poor.

To be clear, I don’t want him at all, nevermind as a DH, and I mostly even brought him up to say it won’t surprise me if these dummies pay a premium for him in prospect costs because 1) bat not awful, 2) sort of plays middle IF; and 3-100) years of control.

if you don't believe in the highly improbable occurring occasionally then being a sports fan might not be for you

They could absolutely sign a major FA. Ownership has stepped up big time, Atkins likely senses he’s nearing the end of his rope, and the shame of the Ohtani debacle might put extra pressure on them to make a big splash.

I’d prefer they use their financial muscle to take on some big contracts at a low cost. Maybe see what SD will give you to take on one of their boat anchors (Boegarts, Machado.) Those deals will be a disgrace in a few years, but so will 12 years to Cody Bellinger.
