OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I agree with the general principle, but that Bogaerts contract is ridiculous. Thanks but no thanks on that one.
Bogaerts would be a better 3B option for us than almost anything out there, but i would rather press for Machado.

The other thing you could maybe swing is Kim, who makes no money, but agree to take on the Cronenworth albatross

Not sure anyone knows exactly what's going on in SD, they were forced to reduce payroll and had to move Soto with no chance of re-signing him, but they've also talked about re-investing some of the money saved on other players, so may not be a true fire sale.

I could get behind Machado or your Kim/Cronenworth suggestion, but I'd be out on Xander's contract personally.

I dont love his deal, but i prefer it for us, to say, Bellinger.

i mean Xander's 31 years old, and signed for $25M+ until his age-40 season in 2033.

Cody Bellinger's 28.
I dont care about Belly's age, he' was shit for 2 years then had a weird comeback season with limp dick soft contact, and we dont even have a CF opening.

Bogaerts fills an actual need at 3B

Yeah, Xander’s contract is genuinely terrible but that’s why I expect SD would have to throw in a pretty serious sweetener and he would cost nothing. He has 10/$250 left which, if projections are accurate, might be less term than Bellinger gets. And he’s probably going to be a productive player for half of it.

Bellinger was one of the worst players in baseball 2 out of the last 3 years. To me the contracts are about the same, Boegarts is more likely to be a good player over the next few years.

Anyway I’d also prefer Machado.

SD is going to be so bad. If they don’t move these guys now it’s only going to get harder.

Bogaerts fills an actual need at 3B, and i believe we were a finalist when he was a FA.

That said, Machado works so much better.

SDP is probably the only real shot of landing an actual impact 3B

It’s SD, so we’re due for another franchise altering mega-trade where they get our future HOF 1B and a veteran allstar.

Vladdy+Springer for Tatis+Boegarts

SD could still pretend to compete for the next couple of years and then be off the hook for all the money.

It’s not their normal risk profile, but in my understanding of Atkinsmath, the chance to swap 5 years of control for 21 years of control would trump SSOSR. May need to run an exit velocity comparison to confirm.

Did you do the dollars per year of control calculation though? Remember, trading the 1st overall pick for Varsho isn't risky, but trading prospects for a superstar locked up for the rest of their prime is because cheap control >>>>

I forgot about that element, but it’s easy enough to fix. Atkins’ original “42 years of control” flex included 6 years each for two PTBNL. Get a couple of those guys in the deal and it’s a lock.
