Franco only makes $2M a year for now, so the Rays will likely let it play out (or try to negotiate a buyout while Franco is in major legal jeopardy.) If he’s convicted of a criminal offence, the Rays would have a good case to terminate his contract. But if he takes a plea for something minor (pun intended), or if he’s found not guilty, it’s not so clear.
Either way, it’s doubtful that Franco ever plays in MLB again.
