OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

MLB.com top 100 list is out
Tiedemann 29
Orelvis 89

Yankees, Red Sox and Rays all have 4 top-100 guys.

Orioles have 6, including the #1 overall.

They’re going to have trouble staying ahead of the Yankees this year. Yanks have added Soto and Stroman and might still get Bellinger. The Orioles (12 games ahead last year) and Rays (10 games) are out of reach. Hopefully Boston is still bad. Technically you can get a wildcard as the 4th place team in your division, but it’s very unlikely.

All those teams have a better prospect pipeline, and our best young players, Vladdy and Bo, appear to be on their way out.

This is why I think they need a big, possibly franchise-altering trade in the next… month, two months at the most. The future for this group is pretty bleak.

Damn, I guess we should just cancel the season then. First time in my life a baseball pennant race was over in January. (That's a shame.gif)

And on the topic of minor leaguers, we have a few persons of interest in the lower minors that could get interesting this year. We shall see.

Our system is possibly as bad as bottom 5

How many games do you think they’ll finish behind (or ahead?) of Baltimore and Tampa this year?

Or do we have to wait until the season is over to have views on the team (that differ from yours, I mean)?

Somewhere between 25 games ahead and 25 games behind seems reasonable.

Current projections on Fangraphs have the Jays with 1.5 WAR more than TB and 3.5 ahead of BAL (4.5 behind NYY). Jays are currently projected as the 3rd best team in the AL right now.

Now, granted, the projections loved them last year too, and they came up well short. But calling TB and BAL "out of reach" even without any other moves, is a tad of a reach. I mean, TB is likely without their 4.5 WAR SS and arguably their top pitcher for the whole season, and Baltimore has already lost their closer. As many holes as we have in the lineup, BAL and TB have just as many, if not more.

I swear it’s like they knew they were going to cheap out and do Jack squat or plug a hole and with all the bad publicity that’s why they threw an offer out at Ohtani, and I’m guessing they knew like 90% he was going to Dodgers or SF and they just did it to get the fanbase off their backs for a bit and to have an excuse like they really went for it with Ohtani and end up signing another bum for 3rd and DH

I think the Ohtani saga caused more fan anger than it was worth it.

For one, fans bought tickets in anticipation. Now they'll go to the dome to watch a may be wild card team.

It also raised expectations, making small signings even less appealing in fans' eyes.

To me they enquired about Ohtani having put together business case around him. Ohtani noticed who the Jays owners were, and decided to push this as far as he could and make his preferred destination cough up more money.

If they could go back in time, I don't think the Jays go after Ohtani.

Soler was solid last year, but was replacement level or below the three years before that.

Still hope they’re looking at JD Martinez, who is better and won’t require as long a commitment.
