OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

It’s good that he is getting into shape, and also it should be a baseline expectation for a professional athlete. Manoah was obviously self-conscious about being really heavy before so hopefully this can also help him drown out some of the noise.

but I believe Jonas said the Jays signing Joc would bring an end to baseball in Canada and eventually the downfall of Western Civilization

Williams is the GOAT hitter, IMO.

He lost 5 years, including 3 at his absolute peak, to military service. And unlike Ruth, played most of his career after baseball was integrated.

He played into his 40s, and had a career .482 OBP. Other than 1959 (as a 40-year old), his worst single season OBP was .436.

As great as he is, though, Ruth is still better overall. It's a little bit of a Gretzy vs Mario debate (although they both ended up with similar games total). Ruth still has some crazy records, like in 1920 he hit more HR than any other AL team (although I guess the rest of the Yankees lineup ever so slightly edged him in HR, 61-54). It would be like a player last year hitting 230 HR by themself. There was only one season between 1918 and 1931 that Ruth didn't lead the league in both slugging and OPS (and the one year he missed about 50 games). It was different times for both of them back then, but their sheer dominance is off the charts.

Running it back would be a big improvement over this current group. And it might be the best option at this point. Although I’m still hoping for a big trade to shake things up.

They’re not done, we know that. Payroll is only $210million. These guys can’t be expected to build a wildcard team for less than $250M.
