OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

The point isn’t that short term vet deals shouldn’t be used to block kids. It’s that there are no kids, and every year they’re plugging multiple major holes in the roster through FA.

Bassit, Gausman, Kikuchi—All FA. Turner, IKF, KK, Springer all FA.

That’s 3/5 of the rotation, 2/3 of the OF, 3B and DH all filled at top dollar in the FA market.

Compare that to other AL East teams. Baltimore has 0 FA in their starting lineup or rotation. Tampa’s has 1 (Zach Elfin). Boston has 3 (Storey, Yoshida, Giolito), NYY has 4 (Lemahieu, Cole, Rodon, Stroman.)

Toronto has 7. It’s an organizational failure.

I feel like these numbers are misleading i'm gonna have to look into it.

I just think you are being a spiteful contrarian optimist at this point
that may be true, but it's also true that all these guys are fairly interesting, except maybe Horwitz. Most people haven't heard of Palmegiani but there is some intrigue there.

Intrigue sure, but thinking he can actually be a difference maker in 2024 i think is pretty damn wild.

It's Tiedemann and stops there IMO. Barger was hurt and bad last year, and i think Orelvis needs a full year in AAA realistically.

The rest again, not needle movers.

From the comments:

Baseball America recently released their Blue Jays Top 30 list, and the team has a lot of 50-55 future value prospects including some names that aren't particularly well known yet outside of those who follow the system closely:

65 FV Ricky Tiedemann
55 FV Orelvis Martinez, Arjun Nimmala, Brandon Barriera, Kendry Rojas
50 FV Addison Barger, Enmanuel Bonilla, Yosver Zulueta, Landen Maroudis, Dahian Santos, Franklin Rojas

Go for it, chief. It’s as bad as it sounds.

I’d start here, where the depth chart for every team and how they were acquired is all laid out very nicely. Just click the links at the top of the page to toggle between teams.

Note that it has IKF on the Jays bench and Biggio as their starting 3B. Swapping that is the only bit of editorializing I did.

Rolen would be a good one. Rare for sure.

This Turner signing is 10 years too late. Yea he’s cool and all but fuck the guy is old.

This offseason sucks. They’re probably out of enough money to do anything worthwhile. Might as well go short term and when the new management group comes in they’ll have a clean slate. Hopefully.
