OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Any GM who chooses IKF at 2/15 over Urshela at 1/3 is indeed a village idiot.

And i'd have Urshela in the starting 3B role for 3M hoping to get 2 WAR out of him, and Biggio in the Biggio role, or i would have traded/cut Biggio, put that 8M into actually making the roster better, and giving Schneider the everyday 2B gig
You really honestly don't think defense has much value, do you?

The last 4 years, Urshela's WAR: 1.1, 0.8, 2.4, 0.4. One of these is not like the others. Odds are you're getting less than 1. Cavan Biggio was worth more than double last year (1 WAR). And had a great second half. Absolutely not a guy you can count on as a starter, but also not worth jettisoning either. IMO.

For 8M, you should have another one of those in your system if you are any good, but Biggio i can certainly live with

And yes, i discount defence if its a guy with a High A quality stick and he's playing in positions that ususally ask for an above average stick.

Tiedemann is unlikely to give them more than 3 or 4 innings in his first start. I’d be OK with:

Berrios
Bassitt
Kikuchi
Francis
Tiedemann/White

the first time through. Then if Gausman is ready, have Francis tandem with Tiedemann the next time through.

They open next Thursday and play 7 straight days before the first off day. Going to need extra innings from the bullpen to start.

Really?

Per 650:

2019: 3.8
2020: 4.1
2021: 1.3
2022: 2.8
2023: 1.1

That's his last 5 years. 2 out of 5 years real gud. 2 out of 5 years not good, and one year pretty good. If you want to be a pessimist, 2 of the last 3 were utility player level stuff.

Also, all of that is actually as a 3B. IKF received 13.2 runs in positional adjustment in 21-22. Almost half of his combined 3.1 WAR over those two seasons was from positional adjustment math. Just for being able to stand at shortstop for 1200 PA's, here's 1.3 WAR.

If you wanted a 3B, Urshela is obviously, obviously the better choice. If you want anything else other than a shortstop, what the fuck are you doing picking IKF for it?

It's fine to question adding IFK. I just think they wanted a better defensive player who will eventually be the super-util but can play some 3B in the shorter term.

Also, whatever the question is, the answer is not Gio Urshela.

Eh, if the question is "who can maybe give me 2+ WAR as a starting 3B for a couple million a year" the answer is definitely Urshela.

As for the first part, any time we fall back on what Shatkins wanted, I think you're fucked. This isn't a competently managed baseball team.
