OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I'm gonna go with "nah" on that one. Teo likely doesn't have that down season if he's in Toronto last year (his home/away splits were ugly, he just didn't hit well in Seattle at all, but normal Teo on the road) and this year just looks like a normal post breakout Teo year

Everything is just back to normal Toronto Teo after one year not hitting in Seattle.

The reason to trade him is that paying him seemed like a bad idea. In retrospect, I don't think that's the case. Especially considering what this front office turned around and used the money on.
Seemed to me at the time that the options were trading Teoscar for something useful, or extending him at more than he deserved. Of course just keeping him would have worked out better but I agreed with moving him at the time. Not for a RP with the minimal track record of success, but Atkins is going to Atkins.

In retrospect, it would have been much better to keep Teoscar, sign Kiermaier, and forget about the Varsho trade. They probably would have had 4-5 more wins last year alone and Varsho’s value went way down after last year. Could have had him for a fraction of what they paid.

Padres' Estrada makes history for consecutive strikeouts

Did you know that as of today, Dalton Varsho is the 29th most valuable player in MLB with 1.7 fWAR, Teo is 34 (1.6 fWAR), Matt Chapman is 39 (1.5 fWAR), IKF is 64 (1.1 fWAR). IKF might be the best "value" signing of the offseason.

The Problem for the Jays is only have 4 players with 1+ fWAR in Varsho, Jansen (1.4 fWAR), Schneider (1.3 fWAR) and IKF. Vladdy is closing with a wRC+ of 136 to an fWAR of 0.9.

Bo (0.5 fWAR), Springer (0.1 fWAR) and Turner (-0.3 fWAR) have HURT

Moreno (0.9) and LGJ (0.7) = 1.6 fWAR and I don't even think we should count LGJ as he was a free agent signing this offseason.

Just still can’t believe that this is the admin the ownership finally opened their pocket books for. The main problem is that it has covered for their inability to build a system or develop any talent. The worst would be if they make the next GM work on a tight budget because this throw-money-at-it approach has failed.

Right now we have a mediocre, aging team built almost entirely through free agency that is probably going to need to be torn down. And somehow Atkins has been here for 9 years. Longer than anyone other than Gillick.

Despite the down year last year, held out some hope that Varsho would rebound, and that seems to be working.

But yeah, the big problem this year is paying KK who's down from even his modest projections, and then the DH slot hasn't been good. The team would be a lot better served had they signed Teo instead of Turner/KK, and then pick up any waiver wire platoon OF option, and let Teo be a part time OF/DH. Even if they sucked as much as they are now, at least they might be having fun.
