OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

91 WRC+ of this lineup this season is the second worst offense in baseball.
Lowest ISO in baseball. Least amount of runs. Projections can be what they are, but we can't survive another year of this.
Like, it's pretty dire, to the point where they probably should at least consider Trent Grisham as a CF option next year.

Or at least overpay Arozarena/Suzuki to be in LF and use a cheap all glove guy in CF.

I would be all over Corey Seager and his wonky injury riddled self if we could dump Gimenez on them and just hope Seager is healthy when it matters

please stop with this trent grisham nonsense.

also, i LOVE Corey Seager, but the dude cannot stay healthy, has never been able to do so, is now 32 years old with constant back and hamstring issues, and is hitting .190 this year with a 90 wRC+. And at his age, with his size and injury history, isn't long for SS either.

Even when we signed Santander he was coming off a 40 HR 800 OPS year, thats concerning in and of itself

He's a 1 trick pony who relies heavily on bat speed and is going to be 2 shoulder surgeries and roughly 2 years removed from playing, and will be in his mid 30's
he had a good resume mashing balls , shit happens with injuries

I’d trade Yesavage for a young OF (although not sure Langford is the guy.) I think Trey is going to have trouble staying healthy. His value may have already peaked.

And this FO knows how to build a rotation through free agency but their record of adding bats that way is spotty.

What do you want to see in CF next year?

Yeah, I don't think I trade Yesavage right now. I don't think he's close to peaked in value. He's a small improvement in sequencing and control away from being really, really hard to deal with. They've already adjusted his arm slot a bit (down about 4 degrees this year) with minimal decline in any of his underlying numbers (fastball is actually better now than this year, the split isn't but I think that's sequencing and control, the pitch shape is the same). Basically, I think everyone has the book on him now so it's not novel anymore and he's still been a good #2-3. A 4th pitch (cutter, change, whatever. Something else that has the same tunnel and moves differently that he can throw for strikes) turns him into nasty nasty business. He misses bats at an excellent rate still (Only the unhittable Brewer and Cease are notably better. He's missing bats at a similar rate to Skenes, Schittler, better than Yamamoto, etc). I think you eat the risk and just keep developing him, he's got #1 starter written all over him still imo, maybe elite #1.

As for CF...I think I'm higher on Bateman than most here. I generally don't like slap hitters, but when I do like slap hitters it's because they can run, draw walks and surprise you with gap power. 60-65 speed that might have a 12%+ BB rate and has solid batted ball numbers in AAA (excellent LD rate, good hard hit rate, etc). If the glove plays in CF, he might be sneaky good. If it doesn't he's a 24 yr old version of Lukes that is a lot better at 24 than Lukes was.

probably gonna have to trade for somebody. I guess it's possible we can consider Coleman/Lukes/Straw for C1/OF4 if we upgrade the offense significantly at a couple of other positions.

And yeah, I'm not looking to trade Yesavage. Dude has only scratched the surface of his upside so far.

There are only so many places we can upgrade the offense.

3B/1B/C/2B/RF are locked in

DH/SS are expensive and probably locked in

LF/CF is it and i have no interest in a complete no stick option in CF when we already have it at SS and our DH might be broken with no real internal backups. Using Straw and i assume you mean Bateman as 2 roster spots for a CF that cant hit is gross

Our group of LHH OF either project as OF4/DH/4A to me, i dont really want anyone starting.

And as much as i like Yesavage i would move him for a position player of need of similar value. Our team has better SP internally, and there are more options externally as well

we could sign or trade for a masher at DH, as I don't expect Springer to return. That could be Santander, but even if he does return healthy the leash should be short. We could bring in a 2B and move Ernest to super-util. Could very well bring in new LF and SS as well.

And there's almost no chance Vladdy isn't significantly better next year. It just doesn't make any sense, he's been great throughout his career and is still young. Barger should be healthy. Can also reasonably expect Kirk and even Okamoto (to some extent) to be better next year as well.

I'd love to bring in a masher DH, but you probably cant with Santander still on the roster.

Also, bats at almost every position are complete shit save for Seiya/Randy in LF for FA

Santander is still signed next year? Dafaq

Bring back Morales
Next year and the year after i think.

Its not going to be easy to move off him, i think they convince themselves to give him a shot, and if he's bad our AAA options for DH are also not good.

They also probably think Gimenez isnt a problem.

The Lukes comparison for Bateman is misleading IMO. His bat is closer to Nassim Nunez, which is basically unplayable if it’s not attached to elite middle IF defence and ++ speed (he does appear to be speedy). If his OF D is truly elite (always difficult to get a read on minor leaguers) then he could be a useful bench piece but unlikely any more than that.

Gimenez isn't a problem if everyone else can hit. But you don't want him in the lineup if you have 2-3 other guys who are below average hitters
And that includes some level of planning for injury and rest. If you also have a no-hit CF in the lineup, and you don't have masters on the bench ot take over when Okamoto, Kirk, Barker get hurt or need a day off, then yeah, Gimenez is a problem to run out.

This is fair, but i think its going to be a challenge for him to be the only no hit guy in the lineup.

I'd very much be in on a Lindor/Seager/Neto/Pena/Abrams as an upgrade if i could be, and i'd consider Adames as well, moving Ernie to SS and Adames to 2B
