Well got back from an awesome trip. I must say Asian countries are taking Covid far more seriously than the US. People actually wear masks.
Visited a few Buddhist/Taoist temples too. Amazing stuff. Bucket showering in the mountains was interesting. Cold water. Always. This really old monk (I mean picture Gandhi as a raisin) stuck in my head. “Hot water for tea” was his consistent response.
Amazing trip. Too bad there was work to do also.

I spent several months in Ecuador about a decade ago? I spent ~10 weeks volunteering on ecological reserves and then remaining time as a tourist. Landed in Quito, based there, then went to the coast and eventually Galapagos with some other stops in between.
Stopped in Colombia for a few days on my way home too.
Montanita is basically just a giant beach from what I recall. Not much going on beside beach going and partying.
Galapagos Islands are a must see, but not cheap.
Colombia is fucking stunning, both the scenery and the people.
Happy to answer any more specific questions you may have though.

So I’m in Colombia. What a place. Landed in Medellin about a week ago. Great city. Awesome nightlife. Active culture. Played pickup basketball/ volleyball with the locals near the Poblado. Biking around.
Checked out Guatape for a day trip. Pretty cool site to check. The scenery is next level.
Took a flight to Santa Marta for unbelievably cheap. Now I’ve been beach bumming in a small beach area called Taganga Beach. Again scenery here is awesome. I can count on one hand how many tourists I’ve seen. People have been great despite my lack of Spanish vocabulary. Def looking into learning the language. At least on a better level than I am currently at. 2/10. No bueno.
And the food has been great.

Probably heading to Tayrona National park tmw. Day trip/hike. Might hang out in this area a couple more days. Then probably taking a Bus to Barranquilla. Take in the scenery and weather. Def feeling the beach vibes. Making my way towards Cartagena where I’ll probably stay a few days/week. checking out Isla Del Rosario after that.
