OT: World Politics

This is what American soft power looks like in real time

Orban would love nothing more than to turn Hungary into Belarus, but is gently nudged into voting to allow Swedish/Finnish inclusion to Nato by the US. Vlad immediately unfriends Hungary on facebook.

We should probably expect a bunch of additional Nato growth over the next 5 years. The Ukies will eventually be in. Kazakhstan and Georgia will likely line up with or shortly after the Ukies. Moldova and Bosnia want in as well.

Bosnia? Is Serbia backed by Moscow? I don’t like the thought of how that could escalate.

Russia isn't going to war for Serbia, this isn't 1914.

But yes, Bosnia. Bosnia will eventually join Nato and doing it during a generation the Russians will be spending licking their wounds would be the smart play imo. All of the clowns backstopped by the Kremlin will be on eggshells for a few years after Ukraine wraps up.

Moldova & Georgia would both have to solve the problem of Russia militarily occupying portions of their territory before they’d be considered for organizations like NATO or the EU.

As for Kazakhstan, I dunno. They spent their entire post-Soviet history up until a few years ago being ruled by one authoritarian dictator. And the new guy who replaced him seems to be of a similar bent.

The vast majority of Kremlin regime operators who are involved in the invasion and war crimes will never be brought to justice. Instead, my guess is that extra-legal justice will be brought to them. The Ukrainians know who they are, and they will have long memories.
