OT: World Politics

Unless the robots start buying the cars that they make, there's still a whole lot of economic activity for us meat bags to take care of.

Sure, but are we talking about a lack of workers? Waiting to see the full force of AI…

Of course, robots and AI are a problem for some people but beneficial for others. It’s kinda awkward.

As a pretty avid follower of tech and tech developments, "AI" in it's current form is a big wet fart that shouldn't even be called AI in the proper sense. It's microsoft Excel 2.0, not Data from Star Trek.

You still need technicians to fix the things, engineers to design the things and all of the people necessary to feed, cloth and sell insurance to the technicians and engineers. All of this while the working meat bag population continues to decrease because capitalism hasn't figured out how to keep valuable workers from dying of old age and is instead settling for trying to force the olds to work until they die.

Well, the meatbags always learn to adjust and work with the cyborgs. Wind power, steam power, electricity, etc. But transitions can be painful and socially destabilizing.

Automation/digital most certainly transformed routine jobs on the last 30/40 years. I totally agree that meatbags will continue to own the non-routine space. So, in most cases, it will be a combination of cyborgs and meatbags. Housing is a good example, robotic milling, etc. and skilled trades on the sites.

Oh, this kind of stuff steams me. Technology absolutely produces enough cargo to allow everyone to have a dignified retirement. This is question of policy, aka eating the rich. Also, smart investment in the right cyborgs should contribute to all that. In fact, we need more cyborgs to get there.

But it’s not happening.

Gilded Age 2.0 and they're not even happy with that. They're aiming for the return of serfdom.

It's kind of crazy that we're not at the point where we can just have like a universal basic income to give enough for everyone to literally not die, and have work as basically being how much extra you get.

But I guess society still needs people starving, literally and figuratively, to keep the plebes from overthrowing the rich. Convince them that's socialism and it's bad.

If everyone is a millionaire, who will clean your toilet? Who will pick up your garbage? Who will grill your unseasoned and tasteless chicken sandwiches? Or, as Peter Gabriel succinctly put it about 40 years ago, "How can we be in, if there is no outside?"

They system requires have's and have-not's to keep going. And how the hell are we ever going to achieve UBI when the richest members of society don't even pay their fair share of taxes, or pay taxes at all? Real change will never come unless or until the Musk's and Bezos' of the world have their throats cut while they sleep. They aren't going to share the wealth voluntarily.

Seems like Putin is on his last legs, his doctor's are apparently not very optimistic after his heart attack over the weekend.

I almost posted about this a couple of days ago, but it's an unsubstantiated rumour so far.

Trump could literally keel over and die on national live television and 5 minutes later social media would be full of MAGA-tards claiming that this was a body double. Body doubles are the new fad among the rabbit holers.
