The best data that I could find, though it's from shortly before the war started, is that Ukraine had a split with the Penguins being the most popular google search in the west of the country, and the Caps in the east. I'm going to assume that Ovechkin is slightly less popular today than he was in January of 2022 though.
From the same data set fwiw, the Leafs were the leading google search in: Canada, Australia, UK, New Zealand, Argentina, Colombia, Equador, Spain, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Mexico, Philipines, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, the DR, Israel, Singapore, SK, Malaysia, Portugal, Turkey, Thailand, Greece, Hungary, UAE, Chile, Malta, Bangladesh, Croatia, Bahamas, Nicaragua, Sri Lanka, Panama, Egypt, Cyprus, Uruguay, Lebanon, Uganda & Albania
The Senators beat us out in Sudan apparently, and is the only country in the world they're the most popular NHL team in.

There is a huge Ukrainian population in Winnipeg, hense the popularity.
There is also the matter the gaming and "Skip the dishes" ads. While the gaming ads are successful, there tends to be frustration in the "Skip the dishes" ads, as deliveries tend to arrive cold.

It’s nice that Baby Bro has at least one country they’re the most popular team in, considering they aren’t even the most popular NHL team in their home city despite being the only team that plays there.
