OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Grapple - Hall $2. I'll take fear of being subbed from the back as a check to a wrassler. Might cost me a lay and pray decision now and again, but whatev.
Striking - O'malley $3. Where this build is going, this is more than elite enough.
IQ - Tex $3
Chin - Joanna $2. Underrated chin here. Can take a severe beating and keep coming forward.
Power - Francis $5
Speed - Shev $5

Who stands in front of that and survives? You can try to stand and out point but you're always at risk of being launched into orbit with no warning. The only real paths to victory are swang and bang (and pray that you don't get murdered first), or be Khabib/Islam on the ground with stupid chain wrestling that just abuses even a high level BJJ blackbelt with a specialty in subbing from the back.

I also feel like gas tank is a completely under appreciated skill here. I actually don't think Volk's fight IQ is that that high for example. I think his ability to stick to his plan at stupid pace for 5 rounds is his real elite talent. Colby the same. Okay striker with pillow hands, but can bring it for 25 minutes straight at high, high pace without gassing. So many of those skills in that chart are dependent upon gas tank. There's a lot of guys with elite power in the 1st round. A lot of guys with elite speed in the first 1-2 rounds.

Joanna as a $2 chin in this chart is the equivalent of finding an unopened Atari at value village.

They cancelled the Holloway-Volkanovski fight.

Boo.

Hopefully Max gets right quick and they can make the fight happen.

That's a shame. Good news, next week's Fight Night looks good. The co mains of Kattar vs Gica and Salikhov vs Pereira looks like bangers.
That's followed by UFC 270 with Francis vs Gane and the Flyweight Title rematch of Moreno vs Figueiredo. Just hoping there are no Patriots/UFC conflicts.

Next week's UFC card is... terrible, if I'm being charitable. I like Kattar a lot, but he's going to get tuned up by Chikadze even after a year off from being on the wrong end of one of the biggest beat downs you'll ever see.

Chookagian is in the co-main---- in fact, Chookagian anywhere near any UFC main card should be considered a crime against humanity. There aren't many fighters I dislike watching more than her.

Brandon Royval's a ton of fun to watch, but eh.

I might tune in for the main event, but nothing else on the card really interests me. This is one of those Well, we have to give these guys fights and we have to fill our contract obligations to have a certain amount of card per year, so who's available in the middle in January? cards that is indistinguishable from a typical Bellator/PFL/Rizin/KSW card.

Wish this was a few years ago. Covington will run him over outside maybe Masvudal landing a big shot in the first minute.

Outside of the main & co-main, this card is completely indistinguishable from the typical Bellator card.

Dana's vision for the UFC really. One or two big fights with name fighters that he drags over broken glass to keep them cheap, and then a bunch of no names on 20/20 or 30/30 deals.

The one fighter making any money on this card wants out of the organization.

The card had some fights fall out that would have made it better, but still, it wasn't great to begin with.

The way the UFC has things set up now, people don't watch for the name value and the UFC doesn't even care. The ESPN deal pays them so much / event they have, they don't need to have stacked cards. And in return, since they're not as dependent on the PPV model anymore, there isn't the incentive to overpay for fighters. They'll let Ngannou walk and they quite literally won't care.

This only works until someone figures out that UFC is leaving themselves vulnerable and that Bellator/One/etc are clown shows that anyone with deep pockets and some marketing cred can buy and turn into a legit competitor.
