Gane's a punk. How are you going to try to play patty fucking cake to win a title?

I get that it's Francis...but once he's gassed, you're supposed to be a kickboxing god...go to work bitch, go to work.
 
I'm not quite sure what Gane was doing in rounds 3-5. I understood perfectly what the plan was in rounds 1-2, but at that point, the same gameplan wasn't needed. Stick & move, stick & move.

Now the interesting part is going to be, what's Ngannou's next move?

I agree - that would have been a bitch ass way to win. Jones would be an interesting issue though. Not sure he’ll be so easy to take down and coukd front kick his way to out point

I'd love to see Jones/Francis. Dana isn't paying the 15+ million in purses to make that happen though despite the fact it would make the company multiples of that. Giving the fighters what they're worth goes against everything he believes in.
 
Not sure (if) Francis fights in the ufc, who’s next? Rematch would be boring. Steve rematch I guess? But don’t see it going in any other way.

I just don't think Gane is that good/smart and had no answer for someone he couldn't bully in the clench. The bar for jerking off to the "technical" skills of a heavyweight is really, really low. What did Gane establish technically tonight? He has a functioning jab, but it wasn't dominant by any stretch. He is more inventive a striker (inverted back elbow, wheel kick, a couple spinning kicks) than we've seen at HW, but it's all old shit in the lower weight classes. He's not technical like Izzy is, for example. It's not like he's out there using movement, jabs and leg kicks to measure distance for heavier shit. His movement is well above average and he's athletic with a solid gas tank.

When Francis started closing the distance on him to grapple instead of try to land strikes, Gane didn't know what the fuck to do with him and got manhandled.

Yeah, I don't even know. Stipe's last fight was a bad loss to Francis. I don't see Stipe being another 18-24 months older than he already was and having a better showing. I don't even think Dana will want this fight again, there's no way he should think that Gane did enough out there to warrant a rematch (despite the fight being close). Black Beast-Francis is a terrible match up, we've seen it. Both guys hover outside of the other guys "death touch" range and are afraid to engage. Maybe Blades-Gane for another shot at it?

The right answer of course is just to fucking pay Bones & Francis to do what they should do.
