Who knew that they key to beating Derrick Lewis was to be able to absorb being hit in the face a dozen times in a row by him?

Some Germans were saying Izzy was the most exciting fighter before the match and was correcting them. He playing not to lose and calf kicking most the time and it’s really boring to watch most the time for a few years now. Gave himself a 6.5 or whatever per commentary…like wtf

Izzy looked sharp and aggressive in the 1st but went back to fighting not to lose after Bobby corrected himself a bit in the 2nd.

I can’t ever see him being the best middleweight ever if he keeps this up - even if he wins a bunch more. Until Silva’s freak injury he was winning and a fucken treat to watch every time. I can easily forget the post injury part of his ufc career and still call him better than Izzy

I would recommend re-watching the Maia & Leites fights, then.

Every UFC champ - without exception - will have stinker fights. GSP had a bunch, Silva had a few, Jon Jones had a few, Ngannou had one of the worst fights of all time against Derrick Lewis. Usman's first fight against Masvidal wasn't great, and so on.

Staying champion for as long as all the greats do it when they're facing fighter after fighter who have been training specifically to beat them for years, and they arrive at the fight in the best shape of their life. It's hard to always win in entertaining ways.

Izzy has basically been doing this since he won the belt. Calf kicking to victory and playing not to lose. Not just one fight. Not a one off and pisses me off cause he shouldn’t be going five rounds with most of these guys.

Jones does the same shit though, fighting not to lose. You don't keep your belt for years by getting into firefights. If you have length advantage like those two have, you use it. I'd prefer more entertaining fights but I can't blame those two for the strategy they use.

Winning> Losing. Entertaining or not I can’t blame a guy for using what he has as an advantage. If these guys have a problem with the leg kicks/keeping distance then they need to get creative in finding another way to win.

I think Chimaiev has a good shot in wrestling his way to a win.

his last few fights I agree - but he had some fun fights before that.

point is Izzy is levels about these guys on the feet and isn’t taking advantage and admitting to it - the point was I don’t see him as being the best middle weight ever over AS if he keeps this up during his title run through his entire title run
