OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Off the top of my head, Max Holloway, Mark Hunt, Patrick Côté, Pumpkin, Carlos Condit, Roy Nelson, Cabbage, Dan Henderson. Big Nog had a legendary chin in his prime. Fujita might have the craziest chin ever, despite getting KOed a bunch.

Yeah man, that's fucking sad.

It's one of the most important reasons these guys need to get paid what they're worth: With the exception of GSP & Floyd, every single one of these dudes leave the sport broken and without much to show for it. Cain did get some money during his career, but hardly what he was truly worth.

Fucking hell.

Get ready to see a lot of sad stories out of that organization. Most of our favourite fighters made and currently make dick and will need second careers that they have no skills for.

Funny, its largely the guys Dana hates the most that leave the sport in the best shape.

No UFC talk after that PPV last night? Great card.

-RDA - Moicano was fantastic. Moicano is one tough sob. RDA came in looking like he did before all the injuries. Would love love love to see RDA - Islam next. Not sure if the timeline works as I think Islam goes against Dariush.

- Thug Nasty was really impressive. He should probably get a 7-8 guy next. Ige? Chikadze?

- Covington - Masvidal was predictable. Poor style matchup for Jorge. That Colby conditioning is elite elite. The wrestling is elite. Pillow hands though. The goof calls out Poirier because he’s got no shot beating Usman. Jorge probably goes on to other better stylistic matchups.

The "we're going to let these guys go out on their shield" mentality in MMA is going to get someone killed one day.

And you're starting to see it with some of the older guys who have been through a bunch of wars in their career. This shit ain't pretty. Moicano's corner shouldn't be allowed to corner anymore.

At this point, Masvidal should only be in commercial / fun fights. Give him Nate/Nick Diaz if they're willing, give him Conor, give him action strikers.

The problem now with Covington is, who does he fight next? This Dustin Poirier shit doesn't interest me one bit. If Poirier & Masvidal weren't team mates, I think that would actually be a fun fight.

I think it's very clear that Covington's the #2 WW on the planet. If Chimaev wasn't fighting Gilbert Burns, who is in all likelihood getting a shot against Usman, I'd say Covington against the winner of that fight would be great. Outside of those two, shrug.

Yeah, that they let him come out for the 4th is crazy.

Mas would be just fine with that I think. He's still a draw and is more than happy fighting to get paid.

I'd like to see Colby do something other than take a beating from Usman twice, and beat Masvidal before proclaiming him the hands down #2 WW. He was pretty nicely set up by Dana to take down a bunch of names well after their prime to build him into being a draw (that despite the antics, has never moved the PPV needle). I'd like to see him beat Burns, Leon or even Khamzat before I call him the #2. The division is starting to look old and mediocre though after being ridiculous for a bunch of years. Luque at #4 has been pretty unimpressive against top competition whenever he's faced it. Belal's career highlight is beating 40 yr old wonderboy, Masvidal is 37 and doesn't look "done" per se, but he doesn't look like a top 5 fighter in the division anymore. Love Wonderboy but he's ancient. Magny is the definition of a journeyman. Sean Brady might be something, is definitely nasty on the ground.

But yeah, the fights coming up and what I'm personally interested in seeing next

Usman v Leon: I don't think Leon has done a lot to deserve a title shot, but Usman has to fight someone

Colby v Khamzat/Burns winner: Makes the most sense really.

Belal v Luque: Kind of don't care about this fight, neither are really contender quality. Interesting for the rankings though.

Brady v Magny: Magny is a decent enough professional gatekeeper for the division at the moment. If you can't figure his movement and pillowhands out, you're not cut out for the top of the division

Shavkat v Neal: Shavkat is a guy to keep an eye on. Well rounded skill set, tough as nails.

Wonderboy v Khamzat/Burns loser: Curtain is closing on a great career, but losing to Belal is probably a sign that his time as a top contender level fighter is done.

@MindzEye and any of the boxing purists in here, this past weekend had two must see scraps on DAZN.

Lara-Sanchez the easy favorite for Fight of the Year....if not the decade.

...and then Chocolatito Vs JC Martinez in the main event was one of the all time great virtuoso performances of the sweet science, just a technical masterclass that was a genuine work of art.

Anyone who can get the full fight should absolutely watch that, but for any who can't here's an extended highlight recap of it...

covington hasn’t really fought anyone in the top of his division. There’s enough guys for him to beat for me to announce him as a clear #2. He has been really smart in cherry picking opponents on his rise up to getting the two shots at the belt taking on former champs on their way down.

Muhammad would be a handful for him (style issue as he wouldn’t be able to out wrestle and pace him out), burns would be interesting, Leon would be a bit less interesting but hard to say until he fights usman how he looks against a guy like that, and Chimaev on paper looks terrible for him atm.

This fight was fantastic!

Couldn't have been two more different fights....and they were both just perfect. Watched each of them 4 or 5 times now.

This weekend's UFC card is god damn tremendous, especially for a free card.

Highly recommend watching, a lot of future names on there.

There's going to be 2 or 3 future title challengers on that card: Ankhalaev, McKinney & Pereira.

I would be shocked if that card sucked.

It’s nice to be able to focus on the card with the leafs playing the outdoor game. Should be a fun night of fights almost from top to bottom
