OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Lazy to go back, pretty sure I had Sterling in the first match too to win. He just was dumb and blew his gas tank before - learnt his lesson this time

There was something goofy about his weight cut and how they rehydrated/fed him on fight day as well if memory serves.

There were also the injuries that he got right between then and now too, including a disk replacement in his neck.

The trainer is a guest on every Anik show, haven’t listened to the Sunday episode yet - gonna guess he will get into that and why Sterling was so calm in round 1 and didn’t even go for really a takedown (or like really attack for it).

I had it 1-2-3 Aljo, but I wouldn't have been outraged if Yan had won the fight by taking round 1.

I want to see Volkanovski fight Holloway again, and if he wins the third fight (I think he will), he needs to go to 155. Would anyone be interested in a fight between him & Yair Rodriguez, Josh Emmett, or Bryce Mitchell? There are some names that might be interested in 2-3 years, but nobody right now.

Yeah, I've rewatched the Max/Volk fights and I still don't buy the judging but can't go back, it is what it is. If they go again and Volk wins again, there's nothing left in the division for him and lots of name/money fights at 155 with guys who are either at or near best before dates. Chandler, Poirier, Gaethje. Then title fight.

I thought Volk won the first one, Max won the second.

But still, those guys could fight 5 total times and I wouldn't mind. I just think Max's chin is going to end up going out sooner or later and I don't think he's got a tons of fights left if he does start becoming chinny.

I agree with Mindz that Volk didn’t win either and (my opinion now) don’t respect him as p4p #2 or him as a champ fighting inferior fighters until he actually beats him. Aside from being poor on the mic, that’s why the average fan doesn’t get behind him. This fight was made to do what he did - he really beat a guy outside the top 5 in the division with this fight. Doesn’t move the needle that it’s beat Max or he is a paper champion and nothing more.

I mean, he was originally scheduled to fight Max this weekend, but Max got injured early on and they replaced him with KZ, who's ranked 4, and just before that he fought Brian Ortega. He's an awesome fighter too.

He's definitely not a paper champ, not by any measure. Is Aljo a paper champ because he won a controversial fight over Yan where a lot had Yan winning? Nonsense. Was Jon Jones a paper champ because he (undeservedly) beat Dominick Reyes, or when GSP undeservedly beat Hendricks?

I wonder if part of it is, Showtime's got a lot of time, energy and (most importantly) a lot money involved in the promotion of their boxing side that they just don't have anything else to spare into promoting Bellator. Eroll Spence Jr. is fighting tomorrow, and Showtime's putting all their focus on that, even their head MMA analysts.

I grant you, Bellator is doing shit-fuck-all to promote their stuff, despite having some legitimate world class fighters in their organization. I think McKee has a real claim to being the best 145er in the world (I think he's #3 at best) and they just might have the best light heavyweight in the world in Nedkov.

Anyway, Aaron Pico's fighting. Let's enjoy.
