OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Tldr

I'm assuming it has to do with nate being on the last fight of his deal and Dana is a twat
In so many words, yes.

If you follow the MMA news cycle, none of this is new information. But it's a two year recap on Nate being held hostage and the UFC not offering fights. They only offered him a fight against the toughest possible opponent on the last PPV card that he could have fought on before he would have been actually free, and there's some thought that if Nate had not accepted to fight Chimaev, his contract might have been extended again. Diaz called their bluff, ended up fighting Ferguson and is now going to be an actual MMA free agent with no restrictions.

He'll end up fighting one of Jake Paul / Anderson Silva in boxing, that'll be his big career payday, and we'll see after that.

What does it say about the UFC that these former headliners are making more money fighting in feature events against YouTubers than they made pulling main event duty at UFC shows

So, Deontay Wilder's going to be fighting for the first time since his vicious knockout loss to Fury.

He's fighting some guy that looks like a truck driver, so if you want to watch a public execution... I've got the show for you.

UFC 280 this weekend. Easily the card of the year and since it's going to be taking place in Abu Dhabi, we've got an early start time and the card should be all done by 5 or 6PM EST.

I saw a stat the other day that if you exclude Petr Yan, every other fighter on the main card + the prelims headline (Belal Muhammed - Sean Brady) are combined for an 81 unbeaten fight streak. That is pretty amazing.

Dana also said that Volkanovski will fight the winner or Islam-Oliveira, and that the winner of Yan-O'Malley is going to be fighting the winner of Sterling-Dillashaw.

And not to mention, the prelims are full of killers. That prelim card alone could be a Fight Night card without any problem.

Can't. Wait.

I didn't watch, but some of the guys I follow that usually have a clue are pointing out that Damage > Control and Yan didn't do a lot with his control apparently.

Yan staggered O’Malley a few times though. SOM definitely dealt more damage overall but the control time would count for something you’d think. At least based on judging in the past. But I’m with you, I don’t think taking someone down should mean too much if you don’t do anything with it.

but the control tone would count for something you’d think.

I've bitched about this a bunch, but the way the rules were re-written a few years ago, it's not supposed to unless the control is leading to attempts to deal damage and/or end the fight. Lay and pray isn't supposed to count for much of anything anymore.

No idea if Yan's control should count as that though, didn't see it. That's just what some fairly smart MMA fans are saying online about the decision.
