OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

My landlord’s (and owner of the gym I’m training at) daughter was saved by Dana (gave them family $$$ a while back to pay for medical bills). Was invited to go to Vegas with them to meet with Dana in October - declined cause I know I’d get them into trouble by opening my mouth. I’d go off on fighter pay/structure of the contract if I was around Dana for long enough.

Love watching the sport though, same as GGoX - I don’t give Dana any money directly though.
See that's the thing, they make so much motherfucking money off the backs of fighters and the people in gyms who help get those fighters ready, and giving them a little bit more is nothing but a drop in the bucket for them.

And they choose not to. There's something evil about that.

Kind of like Stephen Thompson not getting paid after Michel Pereira missed weight and Wonderboy deciding he didn't want to fight.

Contractually, the UFC wasn't obliged to pay Wonderboy. The UFC contracts say that the fighters pending the bout completion. Anything short of that and the fighters aren't guaranteed anything. But Wonderboy has been in the company for over a decade, been in a lot of good fights and has been in a lot of high profile fights, and they still can't pay him his purse? When it'll literally change nothing in the larger scheme of things?

Yeh, the wonder boy thing was all over the news. Technically, if u miss weight don’t get how you aren’t forfeiting the fight and it counts as a loss on the record (meaning wonder boy gets paid). Either way, UFC is dumb for offering $30k or whatever it was and not the full purse.

Not only that, Dana & the Fertitas built a $4 billion dollar company off the back of exploiting their workers to a quasi-slave labour degree (relative to revenue’s being generated)…

America built its empire off slave labor, NCAA built its empire on the same….and now Dana and the UFC have done it as well.

Some might point out that the UFC wouldn’t be what it is today if they hadn’t….but you know what? I don’t really give a fuck.

If it had taken them an extra 10-30 years to get to where they are now, as a result of paying fighters a fair % of the revenue they generated (while Dana & co. still lined their pockets and became millionaires/billionaires)…..so be it.

People can say what they want about how corrupt boxing is, but every time an ex-UFC fighter has a boxing match, they almost to a man get paid an amount that puts UFC payouts to shame.

Lol @ boxing letting the best fight in years go up against a ufc fight between maybe the two most exciting ufcers.

Lol @ having it backwards…..Dana made a crowd pleasing main event after the fact, specifically to combat Crawford-Spence PPV sales.

They still generated $21m in gate sales, and sold 700k iPPV’s. So they still made out just fine.

I post that to mention this:

Perry's old deal with BKFC paid him 250K a fight and he's probably pulling more sponsorship dough as well than he was getting in the UFC. So I'm assuming that his new deal is a bit bigger.

Money is there for the fighters in this industry if Mike fucking Perry can sign 7 figure (total, not per fight of course) contracts in a 3rd tier fighting league.

That'd be fun, but I'd like to see Crawford fight some top guys at 154.

And in a way, it's kind of funny that a guy who hasn't made much of an effort to fight the top guys his whole career is now trying to fight all of 'em.

Not that I'm complaining, I just wish he had started doing this five years ago.

Think you’ve maybe got it backwards, Bud was always hunting the big fights and was ducked pretty consistently, especially by PBC….(don’t think Spence’s people even wanted him taking their fight, so top marks to him for making it happen)
