OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Think you’ve maybe got it backwards, Bud was always hunting the big fights and was ducked pretty consistently, especially by PBC….(don’t think Spence’s people even wanted him taking their fight, so top marks to him for making it happen)
There's blame to go around on both sides for sure, but Bud seemed more than content to stay in Omaha instead of potential having to compromise if he wanted to fight the PBC guys. Unfortunately for us, he's only fought six times since 2019. I mean, shit, Crawford & Spence were supposed to fight months earlier But by beating Spence the way he did, he's become undeniable. He's the guy now and he can call the shots.

But regardless, glad he's going to be fighting the top guys.

Wili-Leimos was a one-sided beatdown. Rogan & DC praising Lemos as someone who deserved to be here was cringe-worthy.

And Aljo lost by fighting dumb like he always does.

O'Malley got Aljo with basic, but super technical boxing.

"You reach, I teach."

This underplays how smart O’Malley fought, he was extremely disciplined staying on the outside, using his feints like a jab to keep Aljo out of range for a takedown shot….and then set traps & waited for the picture perfect counter opportunity to arise, and capitalized.

I’m no fan of either of these guys, but I expected Aljo to wrestlefuck him with ease…..so while I was rooting for O’Malley tonight, I never dreamed he’d pull that kind of performance off.

They were ultimately just praising her toughness, cause she was getting battered but at every opportunity that arose to Conor out of it, she worked her tail off to keep the fight going……even when all it accomplished was taking more of a shit kicking. lol

O'Malley's gameplan was good, but the gameplan wasn't what won him that fight. Pure boxing fundamentals & skills won him that fight when Aljo reached.

Any good boxer, and I do mean boxers, not MMA fighters, I think there might be a handful who could have done what O'Malley did, should be able to pull off that KO O'Malley did.

This KO was eerily similar to the McGregor KO of Jose Aldo. Both went straight forward, reached, got countered flush.

I don't know what Aljo was thinking.

I mean no one is arguing he won via a gameplan that would have succeeded even without the boxing skills everyone knows he possesses….what kind of absurd counter argument is that? Lol.

It’s the gameplan that (a) kept aljo from being able to get takedowns and wrestlefuck him as most pundits predicted would happen (yourself included) and (b) forced Aljo out of fighting his fight, because O’Malley controlled the distance so well, and refused to take the lead in exchanges.

Nah, they were both throwing hooks and Aldo’s was loopier so Conor beat him to it, and caved him. (That KO was more like Mayweather-Hatton when he sent him into the ring post)

this was more reminiscent to me of the Mayweather pull counter, where he’s got such a mastery of the range, he knows exactly how far to pull his head back to be an inch out of range, then instantly counter over the top. Was very reminiscent of Floyd’s early career when he’d drop guys with it consistently, like Leija…

Aljo forgot who he was and when he talked about trying to end the night quickly etx…likely what led to the impatience and disrespect of Sugar’s abilities. Too caught or in the Dana privledge and all that.

Thinking on Aljo - Between him blowing his load in round 1 vs PY + giving up late round to CCC and PY on what seems like on purpose and then this - not sure how someone can say he’s high level IQ fighter.

This is likely better than him giving up the title for the division. Sets up two great fights with Sandhagen and Vera. Guessing that Merab will be left out of the title mix (think he deserves it over Vera) and need another win or two to get it.

Maybe Aljo gets max next? Horrible match up for Aljo if so. Volk is gonna go for the 155, so Aljo wil have to wait for some time to get a shot and likely also need 2 wins at 145 before getting his shot unless Volk comes out and wants that watch sooner

If you didn't think the UFC was slimy enough, welp, they can get worse:

Sean said earlier this year that he wanted to open a cannabis dispensary (or chain of them) to begin a business empire to rival or eclipse that of Conor McGregor’s. But that may have a major drawback thanks to a slick change in the latest UFC contracts that could allow the company to take a piece of any business venture a fighter on their roster launches.
