OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

But if Chimaev does run through Usman, though? That's by far his most impressive win and absolutely legitimizes beyond being just a hype train fighter. Again, assuming Usman's in shape.

His most impressive win is a UD 29-28 win against Gilbert Burns, a smallish Welterweight. That same Gilbert Burns, who is known for his grappling, outstruck Chimaev in that fight.

we’ve discussed this a million times, so it’s not breaking news to anyone how much Dana rips off fighters.…..but seeing this annoys the shit out of me, given how much argument you’d get for bringing it up back when these guys were fighting, and it was at its absolute worst.

the UFC was making so much money off their backs back then, and just robbed them all blind…with barely anyone saying shit about it.

That's the one thing that has happened in both of Chimaev's top fights: If you can survive the initial onslaught, he's very pedestrian.

We'll never know for sure, but if Usman had a full camp & this was five rounds? I think he would have won.

It's not normal that the guy who has bad knees & took the fight on ten days notice has better cardio than the guy with the full camp.

He has a pretty good opponent next though. Stands in front of you to be taken down at will by a professional like Chimeav.

Edit: reported he was injured in round 1 (hand)

…can’t know for sure, but I think those three rounds made a pretty convincing case that had it been 5, Usman wins and if it had been 5 & a full camp he for sure does.

Guy of his calibre it was a real disservice to accept a 3 rounder in retrospect. As I’m sure Chimaev will be happy to just keep that W on his record and not face him again if he doesn’t have to.

Yeah, if that fight's 5 rounds, Usman wins. If Usman had a full camp, even at three rounds, he wins.

The problem for Usman now is, he's nearing the end of the line. I don't know how much longer he's going to be able to keep up with the top fighters at 170 or 185.

I disagree, Chimaev broke his wrist in round 1 and was dummying him. Granted, he does gas out it seems as rounds go but if he’s good for all 3, I think he gets a finish and I don’t think it ever goes 5

I didn't know a broken hand affected someone's cardio.

Did the broken hand affect the fight? Sure, undoubtedly. But Khamzat still won another round after breaking his hand. Khamzat wasn't able to get takedowns because he slowed down considerably after round 1, not because of a broken hand.

The main theme of this interview is about the UFC & combat sports related to Saudi Arabea & the UAE, but it goes much further into depth.

Very much worth your time.

Every time I watch a boxing card, I'm always painfully reminded of how bad the production is. It's slow, it's boring, there's so much dead air where you're stuck twiddling your thumbs. Watching a boxing show in person must be so fucking terrible.

I'm shocked at how boxing hasn't just outright stolen the UFC's production and make their events better.

There’s a HBO Boxing sized hole in my heart, that no one has come close to filling.

Nobody got me hyped like Jim Lampley.

Yup. HBO Boxing was superb.

With Showtime exiting from combat sports this year, there's a massive hole. DAZN might be the top dog for boxing now, which is fucking crazy to me.

Only took two fucking hours, but the Ngannou-Fury fight's about to start.
