They need a better definition of "intelligent" defending. Aldo was in the fetal position for 2 minutes without doing anything but shifting his hips to get Yan from an incredible position to a slightly less incredible position.

He wasn't defending himself aside from turtling...which is hardly "intelligent" the way that I understand it.
 
Yeah ref was super concerned about Yan’s fingers but was cool with Aldo getting his face smashed in with no real defence for two minutes
 
If you turned off the commentary, Yan killed it. Don’t think he’ll be a long time champ tho.

this was almost set up for him to win the title - aldo didn’t deserve a title shot

I agree that Aldo didn’t deserve the title shot but Yan is legit and a top 2-3 guy in the division. I imagine he’ll face Sterling next which should be a fun clash of styles.
 
not exactly robbery, but that's bad judging. MMA judges still give too much credit for inefficient wrestling. If you're 3-10/11 and got fuck all out of the 3 takedowns, that's a negative in my eyes, not a positive.
 
I just don’t know how you give round 3 to Volkanovski. He was better then rounds 1 and 2 but I still think Max was won it

Max had 2 knockdowns, out struck him to the head and the body, nullified his wrestling attempts, and stood in the middle of the octagon the entire fight.

MMA judges fucking suck

yeh - really the main issue holding ufc back. Kinda like Olympics at times - watch something amazing and just fear wtf the judges will reward after

I don't think they can keep him out of the #1 contender spot for that long. Volk probably gets a title fight with Zabit. Ortega gets someone else in the top 8, and Max fights the winner of Ortega/ranked fighter. Max wins that, it's hard to not give him another title shot.

Worst bit is that UFC has fixed the rules. They've got it in plain language in their rules that ineffective takedowns should count for nothing. There's still a lot of carry over stupidity from the previous scoring era though.
 
I was trying to sell their VP ops guy that they should invest in their own education centre for judges and refs. Create certifications and whatever - they are so much money, stupid to not do that.

can also create something underneath the must point system to better helP out judges to understand what deserves a 10.
 
Also, ufc is enormous. They need to not just partner but start to bully Nevada state on their judgin to not make it like boxing. Move from Las Vegas if they need to - to someone that will do a better job
