SPECTOR’S NOTE: The “Dubois-to-Montreal” speculation hasn’t been as heated as it was a couple of weeks ago. That doesn’t mean a trade to the Canadiens isn’t possible. However, it appears they’ve made it clear that they’re comfortable with Dubois heading somewhere else if the Jets asking price is too high. The same applies to his contract.

The most consequential athlete in terms of pro sports contracts is LeBron. He has set the template for this generation of athletes who want to manage their own lives on their terms. I figured Matthews would’ve the first to do so in the NHL, but it was Tkatchuk. And now Mbappe in Europe. Dubois isn’t doing anything different than them.

I will grant you that Columbus was likely a toxic thing with Torts, who is a maniac, and an immature PLD. But apparently that’s not the case here, he was a good professional for the Jets.

Precisely. He's played well for the Jets, he just doesn't want to live in that shithole of a city. Can't blame him for that. Half his current teammates don't want to be there either.

From what I gather, in addition to the offensive production, he plays a heavy game and is excellent at puck possession and retention. This last part is a big deal for the Habs.

Great front net presence, and his defensive play has really come along.

That’s false equivalency, PLD clearly stated he had no interest in remaining in those markets longterm, and wanted to chose destination of his choice…. which is his god given right as it was for Panarin to pick NYC or Bobrovsky for Miami when they wanted nothing to do with staying longterm in Columbus

Actually, yah, it was Panarin and Bobrovsky who set the trend in the NHL.

Which utterly fell apart when Monahan was injured. The underlying stats for Suzuki and Caufield were really bad. They need to improve or they need help.

I can understand the desire to get PDL. If the deal and contract are fair he gives us another good player. Having nhl centre ice this year I watched him play many times and was underwhelmed.

In order for Winnipeg not to be dead last in terms of desirable NHL markets the league would have to award a franchise to Thunder Bay or Regina.
