Pierre-Luc Dubois Thread

How long was David Poile employed in Nashville again?

Chevaldayoff seems like the type of guy who has his boss tell him to jump and will always ask how high. If he's there to just do the owner's bidding, he's probably got a job as long as he wants it.
That's probably most NHL GM's. They're nice jobs to have, especially in lower-pressure U.S. markets.

Unfortunately. Be conservative, sell everyone on a long, 5 year rebuild, take very minimal risk, sell hope.

Yaaaawwwwnnnnn.

I might be on an island here, but what exactly did the Kings give up of value to get Dubois?

Iafallo? A third line winger? Rasmus Kupari? A former first rounder that hasn't been able to make a dent in the NHL yet? Gabriel Vilardi, a player that I've never really been a fan of who can't skate and has a history of back problems?

The best asset Winnipeg got was Montreal's second round pick, which is basically almost a late 1st.

I mean, sure, it's better than nothing, but if Dubois actually like it in LA and doesn't quit a third time (But I'm sure some media types will find a way to excuse his behavior), the Kings easily win the trade.
Kings did well. Jets wanted ready now players and not picks, given that request the return was fair.

Because Nick is overpaid?

perhaps...regardless, all this "salary structure" talk is being discussed here as if it was some hallowed discourse etched in stone.

just because they didn't want to pay CC more than Suzuki, it does not mean HuGo would not pay PLD his 8.5

Once the Kings offered the Jets ready now talent, Habs were on the outside looking in

Per Arpon Basu:

One truth the Canadiens were working with was that Dubois wanted to play in Montreal. But at some point in this process, I’m told, that changed. Playing in Montreal took a back seat to getting the contract Dubois wanted and going somewhere he perceived as being the shortest path to winning.

There were multiple complications for the Canadiens. And it is worth stressing that this is not a situation they asked for; this began when Dubois’ agent Pat Brisson said on live television a year ago that his client would like to play in Montreal. This should have been good news for the Canadiens, but what transpired since that time is that Dubois clearly realized he is not willing to play in Montreal at all costs. His contract was clearly more important.

Oh no I agree, Hughes even said that it’s not a strict rule. I just think 8.5 is too rich for a 65-70 points player, nothing to do with the salary structure.

Yes it does. For what he brings the structure is set at Suzuki. This isn't a respect thing it's a structure.

I feel like Long Duck Dong on 16 Candles here.

The money always wins. It's undefeated.

Nick is not overpaid , thats a solid fair contract for both sides

IMO Hugo wanted no part of another big contract for a non star or difference maker
