Rumors: 2024-25 Season

They need to take one of our shitty contracts off our book.

Cost of doing business, they can’t just get picks and prospects.

Won't be surprised if a trade happen soon...20 games into the season is when every GM has to compare their expectations with reality

Yup , USA Thanksgiving is a good point to see some separation from good and shit teams

Yah, your place in the standings on Turkey day in the US focuses the mind.

Hopefully, our 3-7 record in November quashes any and all delusions of grandeur.

Since the cap was introduced how many trades of any significance ever happen outside 4-6 week trade deadline window?

I’m sure there’s been 1 or 2 but can’t think of any in Nov / Dec to be honest

Yeah, but that would be far too late for the oilies this year if they don’t go on a prolonged hot streak à la St. Louis. (Why, hello, Jake Allen.)

They are seriously underwater at US Turkey Day, which is now a thing in the NHL.

Not many, but this year feels different (famous last words)

The Oilers went on just such a streak in the second half last season. Anything is doable if 97 and 29 decide to do it. But without some trades in the meantime their give-a-shit meters will be low.

We should offer a 7th rd pick to the Oilers for James Neal’s buyout cap hit and their 2nd round pick. Maybe their first (not likely this year!) Depends how desperate they are to create cap room.

Are teams actually able to trade their dead cap straight up? I don't think they can.

If it's possible, then yeah, I'm all for it. Fuck it, I'd even accept a third & a swap of seventh round picks.
