From what I can tell, if Calgary’s first-round pick is in the top 10 and Florida’s isn’t, we get the Florida pick. If both picks are not in the top 10, then the Habs get the better 2025 first-round pick.

Yeah, but I think that might be mitigated? If Calgary is mediocre, maybe we get the higher pick - but not if they truly stink.

The rationale for waiting is to get a clearer idea of what you have. If HuGo doesn’t care and they have cooked up a good trade, then yeah, it can be moved.
