Rumors: 2024-25 Season

There’s some talk about Jeff Gorton feeling somewhat isolated as vice-president of hockey operations for the Montreal Canadiens. He may be missing the day-to-day action of being in the thick of things as a general manager, but those duties now belong to Kent Hughes. It would be interesting if Gorton entertains offers to get back into the action this summer.

Talking heads in French media suggested the opposite this week… that he is pulling all the strings, including Farrell playing against Philly.

If Gorton wanted to do GM stuff he could have just hired a francophone meat puppet to do his bidding. Instead he hired a competent anglo to be an actual, real GM.

CBJ beat writer Aaron Portzline, mentions PLD was awaiting an offer sheet from MB, so was Jaarmo which is why he cleared cap space in order to match, and swung the Laine deal shortly thereafter.

Why match the offer take the 4 firsts from a lousy hockey team

If the offer isn't going to be ridiculously high (like Kotkaniemi) there's no point making one in the first place. The Aho offer sheet was a waste of paper.
