Season Ending State of the Union / Expansion Draft Thread

Habs seem to be pissing teams off: Price doesn’t see specialist till after expansion draft and Weber’s medical picture will not be clear till closer to training camp...

Good times for the Ministry of Misinformation

I don’t think anything crazy is going to happen — the league can’t let the Habs shove $25M of cap on LTIR <Price, Weber, Drouin>
Isn't there some limit to it anyways? Like 10% or 15% of the cap?

It’s also possible that the Canadiens WANT Seattle to take Price off their hands. This is likely the last and best chance to get rid of his onerous contract without a very prohibitive buyout in a couple of years. He’s unlikely to replicate his playoff performance any time soon, if ever again. Just saying.

From one thing posted, it sounds like Price took the initiative in proposing and waiving. And overall it makes sense:
If they don't claim Price, then you keep Allen who is a good backup, especially if Price has some nagging injuries that keep him out. Having someone who can fill in during the regular season but has no problem with sitting for the playoffs is great.
If they do claim him, he's from out West, so he's probably fine with that to some degree, and it's a good way to exit Montreal without some ugly trade demand. Everyone can just say "we never thought this would happen!" And he probably doesn't get booed when he comes back to play. Montreal saves a metric ton of capspace.

So all in all, if he's willing to live with the small chance at getting picked, it only makes sense. And especially if he knows how hurt he is, he knows that no GM would take a chance on him, so his best chance at making it back to the playoffs is making sure the team has a useful backup.

Valid point.

And even if it will be hard to see Price in a different dress it is maybe an good opportunity (from the sport perspective) for both sides with a ‚smooth‘ exit.

It’s win, win regarding Price. The ideal situation would be claimed by Seattle, moved to a 3rd team and sent back to us with retained salary, but don’t think that’s happening
