we tried the mushy middle for decades - no sense being in hurry to get back there
 
the coach and players should be going everything they can to win
management should be doing everything they can to make sure they fail

this team should have 2 goals - develop suzuki, caufield, romanov, harris, barron, and get some value for everybody else so you can trade them

i would rather attempt a buffalo
we have tried the one and done (chuk, kk) and it did not work

Or there’s door #3… actually draft properly. No one told the Habs to not draft a plethora of available talent at their draft position disposal over the last 49-years

Hawks don’t win their cups without the Byfuglien, Crawford, Keith, Hjalmarsson etc

TBay don’t win without Kilorn, Palat, Point, Cirelli et al

The list is long of Cup winners actually drafting well

I know they won't hire Torts, but who they hire as the assistant coaches is going to be very important.

Yup , and the thing is you only need 3-4 good draft years to build your core

We have a good head start since 2020 , need a few more 2007 drafts

Build depth in the pipeline so you could tell your scrubs to leave when they want to get overpaid

Funny thing aboot tampa
they have missed on a few high picks
- Connolly at 6th in 2010
- and our good friend Druin at 3rd overall

The key for them though is Hedman (2) and Stamkos (1) (back to back years - so Bedard and Wright please) and getting Kuch in the second round
 
Hawks are the same story with Toews (3) and Kane (1)

so those two examples are pretty much what i want - 2 bad years drafting high - then get back to not sucking
 
Pens and Oilers had 5 years of crap - i am not recommending this

Pens had

Staal at 2
Crosby at 1
Malkin at 2
Fluery at 1
Whitney at 5

imagine they starting winning after two years of sucking - then team is probably moved
