Sinclair/Ballys/ESPN/TNT ... broadcasting access, tips and notes

Very glad I did the month to month thing with Fan Duel and didn’t fork over a yearly payment.
Yeah, that was the right play.
Also noteworthy is that MLB and the Atlanta Braves withdrew their objections to Diamond’s bankruptcy reorganization plan, paving the way forward for the plan ahead of Thursday’s court hearing.
This is what seals the deal. Apparently the Braves were basically the only franchise driving enough viewership to provide profit in their region. Leftover effect of the old TBS Superstation days, I'd guess. The Braves and Cubs ended up with multi-generational fan bases spread throughout the US from the period when they were on every cable provider in the county as a default option.

Yup... Go Cubbies! Harry Caray and Steve Stone every day on WGN.
And son Skip Caray on the call for the Braves - "And, a foul ball into the upper deck behind first, looks like a souvenir for Earl & Beulah Jones, who drove in from Alpharetta. I hope Beulah's sciatica has eased a bit"

Scene:
/Harry a 6 pack of Buds deep in the 5th inning
/Ryno makes contact with the ball
Harry: IT MIGHT BE! IT COULD BE!...
Stoney: Harry, it was a pop out to short
/We miss the action because Arn is showing nothing but hot blondes in Wrigley Field that day

The WGN camera focused on a young couple sitting under a blanket on a cold day in the bleachers. Harry commented "They have a system worked out. He kisses her on the strikes, and she kisses him on the balls."
Uproarious laughter could be heard as everyone in the booth busted up. Harry finally realized what he said, simply replied "Oh" and went back to announcing the game.

Jose Vizciaino drops a routine pop up at Wrigley during a day game...
Harry: "How does a guy from Mexico lose a ball in the sun?"
Meanwhile Vizciaino was from the Dominican. :)

The beauty of most of Harry's quotes is when you read some of them back you can almost hear his voice in the words or find yourself reading them out in your best Harry Caray voice...Ryan Dempster the former Cubs pitcher had the Harry impersonation down to a T!!!

So basically, Diamond will merely serve as a rights middleman in this scenario? Until such time as those rights time out, one assumes. I still think that the leagues and/or teams will end up providing streaming through their own websites eventually.

The long, 20-month bankruptcy process has come to end for Diamond Sports, the owner of the FanDuel-branded regional sports networks. They formally emerged from Chapter 11 today, having reduced their debt from nearly $9 billion to $200 million, and have rebranded their company as Main Street Sports Group.

They also pared their operation down to 16 RSNs (plus a 20% stake in the YES Network), which collectively have the local rights for 13 NBA teams, eight NHL teams and eight MLB teams. In addition to the Canes, the Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning remain under the Main Street Sports umbrella.

So any word if the Amazon involvement now will see the Main Street Sports group move games over to the Prime Video platform?

I haven't noticed anything on that front since it was initially reported. I keep hoping something will break because of how clunky the FanDuel app is ... and that horrid filler in commercial breaks.

At least they got rid of that slow motion bouncing basketball/slapshot horror movie
