Tech Thread

Threads is gay as hell. I just want to look at crisp, clean, beautiful sentences with no strings attached. Jack is the only person on the planet capable of delivering that. My allegiance is with Bluesky.

I swear to god if I had a foot fetish I’d be convinced that gordo is my schizophrenic side’s alt account.

Hmm, seems you do need an Instagram account to sign up for “Threads”.

Guess I won’t be using it then.

yeah I'm not sure what I'm gonna do re:theads...

up and running on bluesky now, thanks zeke.

I do have an instagram account but have not really used it over the past year and am not super keen to return to it. but if that's where all the people I follow migrate, I'm likely to migrate too.

trying to post my first 'bluesky' tweet equivalent, we'll see how this goes:

hmm. not so well. any tips for this zeke? or is it not yet possible?

anyways, the post said this:

Threads isn’t launching in countries that have privacy laws respecting user consent and control of their own personal information and communications. Not sure what else there is to say.

Yup

Like I said, I'm waiting for desktop, where I have much more robust privacy tools available to me and less data they're interested in (they make so much of their money tracking your physical movements with your phone data man....)

Yeah cant do that.

Dont think it works for Threads either.

Unfortunately i'm thinking it just stays a phone app like insta.

But 30m + signups already. This is where Bluesky can't compete. Invite only is nice because it keeps the corps away but the key for twitter was that everyone had access to it.

Threads isnt very good but neither is twitter anymore so i dunno. Best i can hope for is that twitter tanks completely and Musk gives up and someone else buys it and just restores the old twitter.

IG has desktop

Agreed on the Bluesky rollout though, that invite thing seriously tempered any kind of buzz they created. It will be months or more before it's a twitter alternative from a content width and depth standpoint.

Thing is it's still beta version. They're testing ans building it still. They don't have the infrastructure to handle millions of signups like meta can.

Understood. But whether it’s a deliberate strategy or due to technical limitations, I think the result will be the same. Bluesky’s going to get left in the dust.

For a mass migration from one platform to a single other platform to hit critical mass, you have to be in a position to take in all the refugees from the previous site.

Like Myspace to Facebook, Digg to Reddit or WhatsApp to Signal.

pretty sure WhatsApp still dwarves Signal. like not remotely close.
