The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Also, maybe we take a serious look at the Weber situation. If dumdum Bergy finally decides to call it a day, or if his Board does more likely, that’s probably a relatively cheap pick up. Maybe need to go for it and say fuck the back half of the deal.

Yeah I don't think it's in glasses' DNA to go the stop gap route. I think he goes swinging this summer. Weber is an option or maybe something we haven't even thought of yet.

I like that Dubas said of Muzzin that he is a little bit old school which they needed and isn’t afraid to call the team out.... to me it’s a great sign that Dubas is willing to embrace the physical and emotional parts of the game going forward.

Dubas also speaks of the team being able to play a good team defence, but can’t seem to stay dialled in and do it consistently (sounds like his tool box goes well beyond the analytics and is willing to see the flaws past goaltending).... very much looking forward to what he does with this roster in the offseason knowing this.

6 years left on his deal, $7.8m per. Now that a few years have passed, that term doesn’t feel like an eternity anymore and actually fits perfectly with our core and gives us literally exactly what we’ve been lacking in spades.

A deal may never be doable with numbnuts in charge over there since he’s always going for the cup, even when he’s missing the playoffs every year. But if they dump him and rebuild in earnest, we really gotta be first in line on that one. I mean if we got him at this deadline, wouldn’t we be among the legit favorites to win it all? I think so.

No to Weber for me.

I would prefer just trying to build an affordable D group that’s more physical and safe as opposed to offensively skilled and risky.

That said, I think Sandin looks like he can eventually be an interesting mix of both..... smart and safe player.

Also we know Dubas like Brodie, who is an Ontario kid that has spend a significant portion of his career playing on the right side despite shooting left. And with his health issues, and points fall off, he could get a reasonable, short term deal.

Is he any good anymore? Is he that much of a better shot/chance suppressor than Barrie?

Like a Holl or Mikheyev?

Mikheyev was a good find for sure as a 3rd line guy who can move up as needed.

Holl for me is the answer for the 3rd pairing at most.... I like him but he is exposed trying to play in the top 4 for any length of time.

Yes, his zone entry defense, and suppression numbers are much better than Barrie this year, against much tougher competition with lesser quality of teammates.

And he doesn't produce offense, had a bad year last year, and the health issues so I imagine he'll be significantly cheaper.

Since he moved into the top-4:

40gms, 19:56, 10pts, +4, 53.3cf% (+1.1rel), 55.5xgf% (+2.7rel)

Yeah then that's the kind of guy that could use in a huge way. Give him the Muzzin contract (ideally with less dollars, but I think they'd need to give him the same deal to attract him to Toronto tbh.. Bidding wars and all that jazz) and their top 4 all of a sudden looks elite.

Similar overall impact in terms of game score, relative goal share and shot share, but Barrie is all offense no D, and Brodie is all D no offense. And doesn't need to be sheltered.

Mikheyev really changes the look up front, guy is an absolute puck hound. Different style than Hyman, but create similar problems for opposing D. Getting him and Rielly back will be huge.
I think some of us (including myself) are sleeping on him. Guy was turning into a real elite player in his last few games.. Was ppg for a bit and at a 50ish point pace on the season despite getting 0 pp time. That's not even remotely easy to do. In fact, it's god damn near impossible. I try to go longish term with him if I'm glasses because if he bets on himself on a 1 year deal there's a chance they have to give him some real coin the following year.

So in other words, he's a far better fit. I would love to have the opposite of Barrie. Fucking love it.
