Even muzzin caliber probably unlikely but as I said that's not really necessary. I don't know who I would target but someone like a prime rd version of hjalm is the type I'd look at. Even Muzzin is more of a possession driver than a possession stopper... They could use someone who is a little quieter and less sexy as long as he can make a pass. Just please know how to make a pass.

Anyway this is what Dubas is supposed to be good for. Use your glasses and find the undervalued, unsexy rd this summer.
 
If Pietrangelo is a UFA, I still believe we'll grab him.

I don't have the time to assemble the numbers, but I'm sure there's a way to accommodate if we give him a 7 year deal for $8m-$9m.

We need to restock anyway. Johnsson and his $3.4M can go for a 1st rounder at the draft (if teams overlook the injury) or afterwards. The cap will go up. I need to see how it shakes out later. But that has to be the goal. Be top heavy. Fill in the bottom cheap.
 
The other thing to consider is that if we're looking for a Rielly partner, it doesn't have to be a stud. It just has to be a non corpse. Hainsey is bad and has been bad for a while now. Ceci is bad and has been bad for a while now. Finding someone who functions, is a legit #4, and is right handed, isn't impossible and won't cost a young, high skill forward.

I'd rather someone like Justin Braun on a short term deal than go firing young assets out the door for guys who are probably only a small upgrade on what someone like Braun or Gudas (both UFA's, both right handed, both can make a first pass, both have some nasty in their games for those who are so inclined).

Who are we realistically getting for Kappy? Petry for a year?

I get how LOF feels at least, even if I don’t entirely agree. I had hoped that the days of the Leafs failing in ways so novel and spectacular that they become an international punch line were over. So I can’t pretend I’m taking any enjoyment out of Ayers’ story.

That’s not his fault though, and he should definitely enjoy his moment in the sun as much as he possibly can.
 
I mean sure, what he pulled off was still unlikely. But it’s not like he came in and stopped 30 shots or anything. The team in front of him shut us down in epic fashion. That dummy did nothing. So it’s more than a little annoying how much airplay he’s getting for 7 easy fucking saves.

And all this Zamboni Guy who hasn’t played in 5 years garbage - the guy plays in practices against us and faces hundreds of shots per.
 
I feel good for that guy. He was so happy in that interview after the game. Got to live out a childhood dream.

Its not his fault the Leafs put up an embarrassing performance.
 
So I love the raptors but this new thing of comparing the leafs to the raptors as a tool to spew venom on the leafs might be the most annoying media creation of the season.

There was a debate the other day about how the leafs need a Lowry. Guys. They're different sports. Attack the leafs all you want; they deserve to take some shit. But please stop this moronic inter-sport comparison thing. Particularly the raptors media have been eating it up in their smug way, as if they weren't an embarrassment for several years before they got Kawhi.

It would have been possible, but a tight squeeze, including likely having to move out one of Kappy/Johnsson/Kerfoot to fill out the roster, if they let Muzzin and Barrie go.

But after giving Muzzin $6 mill it will be hard to create the $10 mill or so it would take. You need to trade one of the big 4, or Freddy, or all 3 of the $3 mill forwards.

Doesn't look like its in the plans.

Dubas made it sound like they don't even have the cap flexibility to keep Barrie, not that we should.
