The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

let's hope he's heroic the rest of the way and into the playoffs. we're getting rinsed on that trade.

Naz has been pretty meh for Colorado:

Naz: 2.33 P/60, 46.09 xGF% (-7.0 rel)
Kerfoot: 1.92 P/60, 52.13 xGF% (-1.35 rel)

If Naz was here this season, people would be complaining about him. Especially those who complain about defence.

The idea of the trade was always great. I completely loved it. And getting just kerf for him is fine. But he was their best trade chip so it would have been nice to get a bit more. Even if they didn't get a longterm top four RHD, it would have been nice to get some futures added in. Ah well.

Yeah, like I said before, its just a shame they spend the Kadri chip solving the RHD problem, and now they are going to have to lose someone like Kappy, Johnsson and/or Dermott, to try again in the offseason.

Yeah it's alright to be a little underwhelmed by the trade. Many of you had them keeping Barrie over Muzzin next year so clearly expectations were far higher than the end result. Too bad. Kerf as a younger cheaper 3c is great at least.

So with the Muzzin signing the Leafs have $4.5 mill of space next year (on this years cap) with 8 forwards signed, 5 dmen and 2 goalies.

Dermott and Mikheyev are the only re-signings that will eat into cap space. They also need ~$2.1 mill to fill out a cheap 4th line again.

The NHL won't project next year's cap because of how badly they fucked up last year, but assume it a minimum $2.5 they should have enough to keep this team together minus Barrie. But anything significant on top of that will take money going out, or a huge cap increase.

I'm usually a big subscriber to the big picture

But **** everything about this. These cunts deserve everything this gong show of a hockey media and culture is going to throw at them. Fucking everything.

Welcome to Team Muppet.

They used their best trade chip last summer. I'd imagine they use their next best chip in kapanen this summer to address the d. I just don't see Dubas doing nothing.

Of course the other option is doing something far larger. But his presser kind of makes me think that's very unlikely.

If Kapanen wasn't enough to get them a needle-moving defenceman this season, why is he going to be in the summer?
It's far far easier to make a trade in the summer when most teams aren't capped out. I suspect there will be far more offers this summer. And if kapanen continues to play like he has the last two games his value will only increase.

It's weird that we've added Muzzin, Barrie, and pulled Holl out of a hat...without giving up an asset like that. But now is totally when we're going to have to part with young assets to get a defender that "moves the needle".

Protip: The type of defender that "moves the needle" (If Muzzin and Barrie don't) costs a lot more than Kappy.

It's the never-ending narrative in Toronto.

Yeah I wouldn't expect anything but a Muzzin type for kapanen. Give the leafs two muzzin's plus Rielly plus Holl and THAT's a top 4 that moves the needle. I disagree entirely with going for the huge fish on d. It's not necessary. Their d are fine. But one more top four RHD (ideally one that can defend) and they're fucking set at every position but goaltending. Fucking set.

And then you hope guys like soup, Robertson, AJ, Kerf, etc can fill the gaps in middle six roles up front. As I keep saying I value a top four RHD more than a 3w. There are teams in the league that will value kapanen more because he can probably slot in on many teams top line with ease. It's about efficient cap and roster usage. We had the same concept last year with Kadri. Great player but he's worth more to other teams. 3c on the leafs and a 2c on basically every other team in the NHL. Well in the leafs case they're better off getting a watered down (but younger and cheaper and locked up) 3c and a top 4 d on top of that (in this case a rental). At least with kapanen there can be less of a priority in replacing him with a permanent 3w.. they can focus entirely on getting a permanent top 4 RHD.
