The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

vasilevsky would have been worshipped for that performance if he was a leaf.

3 breakaway saves and an absolute stunner on matthews one timer labelled for the corner.

Yep, on goal 1 it would be proof at how bad we were are defensively (turnover behind the net would have been intermission fodder for sure). Someone might have, might have admitted that Freddy might have done better on a 60 foot unscreened slapshot, but 90% of the goal would have been hung on the defensive zone turnover

Goal 2 would have been deemed "unstoppable" because it was tipped...and much wailing would have been done about the inability of our defence to clear the shooting lane

Goal 3 would also have been deemed unstoppable because: Lost a defensive zone draw, Nylander won a puck battle, Hedman (Norris!!) lost his man (Tavares) and backhand shots are literally impossible to stop.

Goal 4 would be proof that our PK sucks because how do you leave someone open in front of the net like that?

Maybe, maybe someone would have given Freddy some shit for the 1st goal

i prefer the slowness, tbh. makes me feel more comfortable, and i think it makes the team feel more confident, too.

hopefully it starts turning into results asap.

I prefer calm to scrambly, but something just looks off to me compared to how he moved in previously seasons. I think scrambly and shitty Fred is .880 Fred and this slow Fred is .905 Fred tbh. He just doesn't look crisp at all in his movements and watching some of his work from previous seasons kind of solidifies that for me. He looked calm in the crease, but when he was going post to post it wasn't lazy looking imo.

Maybe we need Freddy to watch some Belfour tape, and learn how to clear his own crease with a good ankle chop.

Maybe somebody should tell Freddy 240lbs is too fucking heavy for a goalie.

yeah, I noticed that recently when I looked at the bio info on NHL.com

Cringed a bit when I saw him and Lehner at 240 and most other big NHL goalies in the 210-220 range.

Freddy apparently has a heavier playing weight than Alex Ovechkin and Shea Weber.

Zero reason for a goalie to be carrying around that much bulk.

Some of the big guys are even below that.

Bishop is 210, but 6'7"
Rask 6'3", 176
Markstrom 6'6" - 206
Helley 6'4" - 207

It goes on.

Andersen 6'4" -238

Guy sucks every October because he's been eating danishes and drinking Carlsberg all fucking summer.

I guess he is a viking, but thats nuts. No wonder he tires. Just going into butterfly and standing up 50 times a game is like cross fit olympics.

It would definitely explain a relatively young decline, if that's what we're going through right now.

If we look at the best seasons by aged goalies (SV%, min 45 games):

33: Hasek (.937), Fleury (.927), Roloson (.927), Vokoun (.925), Anderson (.923) Vokoun was the biggest at 6'1 210, and Anderson was the 2nd heaviest at 185
34: Thomas (.934) Roloson (.933), Vokoun (.922), Brodeur (.922), Nabokov (.922). Brodeur the heaviest at 210-215

It kind of goes on and on. Even big goalies that aged well like Luongo and Rinne played at 210-215.

Speaking of larger individuals is Buff the offseason target to help the right side?

Seems like one of the better options that wont cost us assets. As long as the cap hit is reasonable

Yeah, that's a risk I'm willing to take. Him or Justin Braun are my two UFA targets on a budget.

Braun is a legitimately good shot suppressing defender who can make a pass, and he's dragging around the horrifically bad Hagg lately on Philly's 3rd pair for some reason, to pretty decent defensive results. Would be a better, actually right handed version of what we thought Hainsey was when we brought him in.

Does anyone want to consider what our blueline would look like today if Dubas was as reactionary as the team fanbase and just said fuck it, punting on Tyson Barrie for whatever he could get?

Dermott-Holl
Sandin-Lilly
Rosen-Marincin
Gravel

Breathe it in.

Hate Barrie as much as you want, but you're just plain irrational if you won't admit that he's an elite puck mover and at worst a 2nd pairing defender on any team in the league. He's got warts, no argument there, but the overall impact of his puck moving makes him a net positive.
