The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

The classic thing is that Lou inherited a rugged backend - phaneuf franson polak brewer holzer robidas - and completely ripped it apart.

Aside from Matt Martin, who he demoted halfway thru his contract, I can't find one other "grit" guy he added - unless you consider marleau, hainsey, or boyle to be "grit".

If I'm being completely honest, I have no memory of Eric Brewer ever playing for us. I completely forgot he did until just right now.

The only reason I remember Eric Brewer is that only a couple of games after we, a team in full tank mode, acquired him as a pure salary cap dump, he played his 1000th game and the Leafs were the ones to give him his silver stick. Was a wee bit awkward.

Do Dubas now. Please :)

Hyman-Tavares-Marner*
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Spezza
Clifford-Malgin-Petan
(Robertson-Barabanov)

Muzzin-Holl
Dermott*-Barrie
Sandin-Ceci
(Lehtonen-Marincin*)

Campbell

* = draft day 2015 moves he was co-GM with Hunter

Non-Lou and Non-Dubas guys (though Dubey may have had influence on some):

Rielly
Nylander
Kapanen
Engvall
Gauthier

Correction:

Dubas was the co-GM when Phil was traded to Pittsburgh, and he negotiated the actual deal. So you can move Kapanen into his column too.

Tbh i didn't start that as a tally of what we had currently.

I was more interested in seeing simply what Lou added to the team. I guess I technically could have added in the negotiating rights window for McElhinney, Plekanec, and Moore in there too.

I was surprised to see that overall, the only thing he actually did was address the goaltending. Now that is a huge thing, but it's only one thing.

And he certainly didn't do very much in terms of adding Grit or Defense.

People generally have no idea WTF they are talking about with the Leafs. And Islanders right now, are the biggest cap mess in the entire NHL.

According to Chris Johnson, the Leafs are already practicing together:

Sounds like all the GTA guys on the team are already at it. Nylander, Kapanen, Kerfoot & Campbell are also mentioned as having already returned to Canada and completed their 14-day isolation, so they're there too.

There's also some hint of the potential line combinations if/when they begin to play again:

The sessions are closed to the media, but the Leafs appear to have organized the six-skater groups by line groupings where possible — with Tavares, Marner and Ilya Mikheyev together in one, and Nylander, Hyman and Alexander Kerfoot (a likely placeholder for Matthews) part of another.

Swap hyman and mikheyev keefe

kinda whanna see which pairing Matthews/nylander or JT/Marner needs him more...whichever pairing is more rusty or off their game - but hyman with them to assist cause your know he’s gonna he 100 percent back (unless injured)

Have people here changed their tune about resigning Hyman?

Unless it's a steep discount, no, his 20% has not changed my mind. He's still 29 at the end of this contract and really likely to be looking for some sort of legit dollars and term. The idea of paying him UFA type money into his 33-35 yr old seasons should frighten any of us.

Paying an inflated price for a grinder's declining years doesn't seem like a Dubas move, but I guess you never know. If our system is worth a damn we should be producing a kid from somewhere who can do most of what Hyman does for a lot less.

This is his last contract at a shot at decent money , highest bidder wins

Sucks to be in this environment for free agents on their last payday

The worry is not cap hit with Hyman but term. Not sure he'll age well. By age 29 we've had his best years. If he wants 5 years, he'll be on the 4th line through some of haht deal.
