The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Offer him $4.5 x3 years and call it a day. I think he would accept that. The guy obviously loves being a Leaf and that wouldn't handicap us in the slightest. After our studs, he is probably the most important player on the team.

Need to go 4 years .....he will get that deal anywhere unless your money is 5.5+

He is solid role player . Economics have changed but slugs got more

He is a great fit for the Leafs , very underrated .

6x3.5 with it being front loaded and signing bonuses.

He can retire at 34 (robidas island) or we can trade him to a cap floor team

I think if you're going to resign Hyman, all of Johnsson, Kerfoot and Kapanen probably need to be traded.

Tbh I think that's a foregone conclusion. The plan was always to trade them as the likes of Mikheyev, engvall, robertson, and other future kids of cheapo signings come up. The big guys are all here forever, the other guys are trade bait as soon as there's depth to afford moving them.

Agreed... but I'd probably have Hyman in that category as well once hes UFA tbh, unless there's a bargain to be had.

The philosophy we've been waiting for forever was to pay the elite players and supplement with cheap, value guys and to be able to walk away from the guys in the middle even when the decision is a tough one. And I definitely think it's a tough one with Hyman but for this kind of top heavy cap distribution to work, I think you have to be able to count on your GM to find players who bring similar things to the table as Hyman but for cheaper.

Still though we should be able to re-sign one or 2 of those 4 guys if necessary

At the moment yeah. But that could change.

If its soup at 2.5 vs a 5 mil Hyman , you keep Soup if Hyman wants big term .

You may need to move a Kap/Kerfoot/Johnsson for cap reasons or to add to your D or get another upside prospect to develop

I think we'll get soup at a nice 3/4yr deal for cheaper than aj/kerf/kappy. Not worried about him.

And I think aj/kerf/kappy were all signed to be traded, unlike the big 4.

Agreed , those are easy trades to be made

Should be interesting how much activity goes on this summer , those network crews may have nothing to chat about on free agent frenzy day

I know we've gone over this before but if we were to re-sign Hyman, what would be the implications re the Expansion Draft/protection?

I think we could just wait until after the draft to sign him.

Yep. That’d be the move if we want to keep him.

Expose him in the draft, and then re-sign him after it’s over. Or if he’s selected, wait until he becomes a UFA on July 1st to re-sign him.
