The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Johnsson’s a weird one.

So good for the second half of the 2018/19 season, and just a complete waste of space this year even when he did happen to be healthy.

Unless it's a steep discount, no, his 20% has not changed my mind. He's still 29 at the end of this contract and really likely to be looking for some sort of legit dollars and term. The idea of paying him UFA type money into his 33-35 yr old seasons should frighten any of us.
Think Johan Franzen

Haven't given up on him yet. Not for one mediocre half season that was sabotaged by the coach.

For sure. There's a lot to like about his skill set and style of play. And ever since we drafted him in 2013, he's improved on his previous season each and every year, from the SHL to the AHL to the NHL. This past season is really the lone speed-bump in the road for him so far.

No to mention that even if you're not a fan of the guy, you'd be selling pretty low if you shipped him out after this season.

Yep. That’d be the move if we want to keep him.

Expose him in the draft, and then re-sign him after it’s over. Or if he’s selected, wait until he becomes a UFA on July 1st to re-sign him.

Zack has a 10 team modified NTC , would he not have to be protected even as a pending UFA in 2021

Nope. Players with NTC’s don’t have to be protected in the expansion draft. Only players with full no-movement clauses do.

And the only Leaf with a full NMC is John Tavares.

Damn. Exposing him would have been a great way to get out of the back end of that contract

I’m as wary about the back-end of that contract as anyone, considering I was on team “don’t sign Tavares”. But the end of next season seems a little early to cut the cord, even if we had the option to.

But yeah, that kind of move is why Tavares’ camp insisted on a full NMC, I’m sure.

Keep in mind that in a meh year where the pp couldn’t really get to capacity, he missed time with a broken hand, the team underperformed and he had the weight of the C (in a year with underperformance and a coaching change - lots to answer for) he still played at basically a 40 goal 80 point pace.

At his $$ he has to perform, but still can’t complain about the numbers.

This is all the assumption that the NHl will just be the exact same. I am not buying it at all. There are going to be massive upsets.
I just don't see Boston picking-up as that same team at all.

They need to show some balls.

Yeah, it’s a brand new season, basically. Everyone will have been off for at least 4-5 months if and when this thing gets going.

It’ll be a crapshoot.

We see this every year and it's continuing. People act like there are never any upsets. All 4 WC teams won last year in the 1st round and there was no 5 month break. There's no way it just picks-up the way it was in March.

Don Cherry picked the Habs.

Nick Foligno come get your cup

thing is habs are an interesting upset option, even against the pens.

Every series is an upset possibility , 24 untested rusty teams trying to get it going after 4 months off

Its like opening the season on October 4 and awarding a cup on December 4
