The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

And Babcock played Komarov, Hyman, and Marleau ahead of Willy on the PP.

Apologies for smudging this thread.

If Leafs go on a big run I'm not sure when Babcock will coach again. His $$ is a major issue obviously, but it'll just tack-on more negatives about him and the myth he's a great coach.

um, doesn't seem to fair to stack that Matthews team like that. Sets up a big opportunity for Nick Robertson though. Also gets those top two pairs dealing with serious competition.

Makes sense to me. Gives our top D reps against top forwards, and tosses the bubble boys up front into the fire to see what they’ve got.

Good article by Masters on what Keefe is trying to accomplish at the training camp:

He'll become a god for the old timers if he can get them playing a strong defensive game.

Leafs were 19th in xGA after Keefe took over (adjusted). I quite like that Keefe points to the forwards when talking about improving the defensive game. They have been, for sure, the #1 culprits in poor defensive play.

Under Keefe....

Naturalstatrick has their xga at:

5v5: 14th (adjusted)
EV: 12th (unadjusted)
All: 10th (unadjusted)

And that carried over in both the hot first ~23 games under keefe and the last cold/injured ~23 games. (The cold stretch at the end there was actually an offensive shortage mostly).

Funny, when I did this it didn't take the dates. Going from Nov 20 onward, adjusted, I get 15th xGA.

Whatever the case, it needs to improve.

Gotta make sure you hit the "set" button for both the start and end dates. And then sometimes when you toggle other options you have to re set them.

& I used Nov 21, keefe's 1st game.

Whatever you think of the guy, this is definitely the end of an era. Been around the team for my entire life, I think.

He was a classy guy. I liked him, and I think all of the players and coaches that came through liked him to. You could tell in the way that everyone spoke to him, from Burke to Babcock, in a respectful way.

Why is he leaving though? It seems off that he'd suddenly make a career change or something.

I used to have no time of day for Hendrick when I was younger. I thought he was a dork, and that he often asked boring, inane questions. And you know, that is true. He is a dork, doesn't exactly ask hard-hitting questions and isn't brimming with insightful, objective analysis of the team.

But that said, this city has no shortage of reporters with massive egos who are under the delusion that, in spite of the fact that they cover grown men who play a game for a living, they're the second coming of Woodward & Bernstein (**cough**Simmons**cough**. There's also no shortage of reporters who over-share their idiotic opinions and who's bread & butter is being relentlessly negative about the team.

So I kind of gained an appreciation for a guy who seemed like a genuinely decent human, who was never looking to manufacture a story, who was relentlessly positive about the team, and who was a pretty good information conduit on twitter. So I wish him the best.

His job wasnt to ask hard hitting questions as he is the teams internal reporter. His job was to be liked, ask softball questions and be part of fun clips for leafs tv.

I figured he would be the team guy in the bubble but maybe he didnt want to do that.
