The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Campbell with the shutout. Andersen not so great, albeit marner did him dirty a couple times.

Robertson with kerf and kappy is even more interesting than him on the top line. That's a line he could reasonably break camp on.

I would like that one. Not all that different than if Johnsson was on that wing, except that Robertson is projecting to be way better.

Uh, it's Jack Campbell not Patrick Roy in his prime.

We don’t need Patrick Roy in his prime. We just need better than Freddie “mediocre in the regular season and raging dumpster fire in the playoffs” Andersen.

Don't think it's much of a stretch tbh.

He's been in an elite top pair matchup role since his 2nd or 3rd season so we haven't had a chance to see how he'd look lower down the lineup....until just recently in the last half of this year, where we saw him paired with dermott and sandin lower in the lineup....

w/Reilly: 475:16, 50.0xgf% (-2.7rel) (elite matchup usage under babcock)
w/Dermott: 189:54, 57.6xgf% (+5.6rel)
w/Sandin: 81:42, 59.2xgf% (+8.3rel)

And this is how he's compared to some other RHD the last 2yrs:

I may not be a member of “Team eye test”, but just like when anyone tries to use nerd stats to argue that Marincin’s not horriawful, I’m going to have to say “fuck the nerd stats” when they’re used to argue Ceci’s actually a useful NHL player.

He let in a few stinkers for sure.

Its nice having an option to pull Fred in a game and knowing we can have someone come in and fill the void without being a complete dumpster fire

We havent had that option since Fred arrived

Nerds hate ceci tho.

McBackup at least was OK while he was here. But even so, it was pretty obvious he was a mediocre career backup playing over his head, and not a viable alternative to start regularly.

As for the rest...yeah, no matter how poorly Fred was playing, it’s not like turning to Enroth, Bibeau, Sparks, Pickard, Hutch or Kaskisuo was even worth considering.

With that said I do find that most nerds already made up their mind on Ceci and chose to ignore any positive stat that he had this year. He's brutal but he's not quite as bad as they believed. They were a bit off on him because they ignored usage with the sens. He's a capable bottom pair guy.

Yeah, I’ll fully admit that a lot of my hate for the guy stems from him playing in our top-4, and the fact that he took up $4M+ of our limited cap space this season when it seemed like we had every opportunity to walk away from him with no financial penalty.

Any other Dubas move that turned out to be a costly mistake (Kadri trade, Sparks over McBackup) I could at least see and even agree with the rationale behind them when they were made.

But keeping Ceci at his price tag was and still is totally baffling to me.

Interesting if Keefe decides to go with a superline. Works for Boston and Tampa.

Tavares-Matthews-Marner
Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak
Stamkos-Point-Kucherov

Mikheyev-Nylander-Hyman
Debrusk-Krejci-Kase
Palat-Cirelli-Killorn

Johnsson-Kerfoot-Kapanen
Ritchie-Coyle-Kuraly
Gourde-Johnson-Coleman

Clifford-Engvall-Spezza
Wagner-Lindholm-Nordstrom
Goodrow-Paquette-Maroon

I’m not even sure which part of that I like better. The stacked super line, or Willy getting the opportunity to play center.

read somewhere that Willy (and Auston) were top-10 in the league in forced offensive zone turnovers last year. And willy was one of the best in forced turnovers down low along the boards.
