The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Pretty sure Kapanen was the one that dragged down whatever line he played with in the corsi's. He was not very good all season. He also likely has way more value than Kerf due to his upside and penalty killing.

Also the youngest with the highest upside of the 3...

I think he might have the most trade value of them. But with out organizational chart I don't see how we can pay more than minimal money for a guy who isn't even a top-4 winger on the team.

No doubt though he could explode into a legit all around 1sr line winger in the right situation.

Our org chart gets a bit hard to project beyond next season though. What is engvall? are we paying hyman into his 30s? Is Robertson top 6 quality before he's 20? Does AJ turn into what we hoped he would or even something close? Especially if we are willing to move Willy around the top 6 (which appears to be possible), we might not be as deep at RW as we think.

I think hyman is a keeper tbh. His hands have legit improved, and his work rate will never change.

I expect AJ and Kappy to both be gone in the next year or two. Robertson and Engvall being the next in line, but also Spezza types in the mix.

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Mikheyev-Tavares-Marner
Robertson-Kerfoot-Engvall
Clifford-Gauthier-Spezza
Barabanov

Even next year I am good with that.

hyman is exactly the sort of contract you have to avoid.

fortunately it's not even an option now with the flat cap and 3 8 figure deals on the books.

Well take your pick of one of Hyman Kappy or Johnsson to keep, trade the other two.

For me, I'm sold on what Hyman brings, and think he'll sign a value contract.

I think Kappy has the highest potential but I think he’s unlikely to realize it here. I also don’t think he has the IQ to play in our top-6. That and his perceived value around the league make me think he’s the first to go. But we’ll see.

Kappy is a keeper for me. He always delivers when the pressure is at its highest. And he’s just scratching the surface. I want to keep Hyman too, but only for so long as he can keep that energy and effectiveness up, otherwise he’s a liability. So Johnsson and Kerfoot would be the first that I’d move If I had to, in that order. I don’t really care about who has the highest trade value. I care about who is most valuable to the team to keep.

Yep.

Robertson-Kerfoot-Kapanen
Clifford-Engvall-Spezza

That's now 2 versions of a non-Gauthier lineup and I'm very happy with either.

I'm dangerously close to proclaiming the leafs to be a Hole-Free lineup, @Volcanologist.

Was getting somewhat annoyed with Seigel's coverage and his assumption that the battle was Robertson v. Engvall when the obvious guy on the bubble is Gauthier.

Re: Kappy vs Kerf to trade. Easily the former for a bunch of reasons already stated.

Using Engvall at 4C with Spezza on the wing is the way to go. Let the guy adjust to centre with the vet tutelage and weak opp.

They may have to trade AJ too which is a shame because his trade value tanked this year. But I want to keep soup and theres a good chance Robertson is ready so AJ is kinda pointless.

The x factor will always be how much Hyman will ask for because hes someone I'm almost 100% on board with keeping. Guy would make a killing on the open market though. We'll see how Jewish he actually is in the end.

The funny thing about Bourne is that the farther away his employment with the Marlies gets in his rear view mirror, the less interesting he’s become, and the more he’s sounding like a regular media guy.

He’s also left the Athletic to become a full-time talking head on Sportsnet, so the transformation may be complete at this point.
Never liked his stuff -- always felt the need to mention his time with the Marlies, blah, blah.
