The 2019-2020 MotherFucking Season Thread

Ceci doesn't bother me as the 4.

The team doesn't have obvious holes outside of Fred, just a bunch of guys who need to keep maturing their game (esp. forwards).

We've never actually seen Ceci used as a #4 before, aside from maybe his first year or two in the league.

And he held his own this year even against the super tough matchups. I'm sure he'll be fine against easier ones. Probably even good.

And then of course he'll also be swapped out situationally on that pairing with Barrie, who was literally the #1 dman (by far) on everyone's darling Avalanche just last playoffs, and is now a bottom pair dman on our horrific defense corps.
 
No we keep his rights, basically him going back to Russia just pauses things. Apparently he looked decent in the AHL, but it's possible he looks at the Leafs roster and sees no spot available for him and decides he'd rather go back home than play in the AHL.
 
I mean he's a 24 year old who played at a 45 point pace in the A. He did better than I expected but that's still kinda not very intriguing.
 
It's not over yet though, only because of the flat cap. he's still a potential 3 year entry for the bottom two lines somewhere, something we'll continually need. Not holding my breath though in this case. Mikheyev is miles beyond Korshkov and Barabanov potentially is too.
 
Yeah I think the painful part with this guy is we passed up Debrincat, Hart, and Girard who all slipped out of the late first round.
 
Dubas would have been all over debrincat. I'm willing to bet my house he was his guy. Drag, isn't it?

Edit: I'm sure he loved girard too. Two very obvious dubas picks. But debrincat in the second round would have been very Robertson esque.
 
It's those picks that can make all the difference. Marchand and Bergeron, both 2nd rounders. hell Pastrnak was 25th overall. Thank god they screwed up the one with 3 picks in a row at least.
 
Yeah, them fucking up that draft is very possibly the difference between them winning multiple cups with this group and just the one they got because Thomas went nuclear.
 
Marchand was a 3rd rounder... basically, if you’re perceived as a shrimp, odds of falling in the draft are elevated. But if you’re a big guy who’s a little slow, you need not worry. Things are changing though....
 
Marchand is a bit different than some of these midgets lighting it up. He was more of an energy and not really touted as a guy with great skill. And then he randomly exploded at a far later age than the norm.

he has one of the most unique career arcs I’ve ever seen....but general point still stands
