The Expansion Draft

Current rumours/news making the rounds:

- Leafs and Knights have had talks concerning Dumba, and allegedly Colin Miller as well.
- Boyle and the Leafs have talked contract, Boyle smartly though has said it's between Lou and his agent and he ain't saying shit.

Miller would be a nice add. Booming shot and can skate. Feel like they've jerked him around for plugs in Boston.

Even if he can't be trusted with more than 3rd pairing minutes 5 on 5, his shot would completely change the nature of our power play. PK forwards get to cheat down to take away passing lanes now without worrying much about the point shot. Miller has a bomb...you can't cheat off of him.

Go Lou go!

Lots of potential solutions to the Leafs weaknesses on offer. Should be an interesting day.

I may be wrong, but I think it'll just be moves which immediately impact the Knights expansion draft selections.

Bobo is reporting that Vegas has deals in place with Florida (to take Marchessault and Smith) and Minnesota (to get Haula and a prospect). So Dumba/Demers may be off the table, along with Manson and Vatanen. Miller is probably the target in that case.

It was suggested to me FLA's deal with VGK MAY actually be for Vegas to end up acquiring both Marchessault and Rielly Smith (also exposed).

Next up, MIN. Looks like RFA Erik Haula is VGK bound with new contract, along with a prospect. Read @Russostrib for more on that. In exchange for Haula/prospect, it's believed VGK will lay off exposed Dumba/Scandella/Staal, which means MIN could still trade a D in CHI.

Haula seems like a paltry price for Minnesota to pay to keep Dumba, Scandella & Staal.

I'll be interested to see what, if anything, is also part of that deal.

And if Bobo is right, it does seem like the window for the Leafs to use the expansion draft as an opportunity to improve their D has closed. I mean, there still is Colin Miller potentially, but while he's probably an upgrade on Connor Carrick, I'm not sure he'd be a big upgrade.

Yeah seems like there are potentially two d out there now. Demers, who has to be the number one Target and Colin Miller, who is a pretty nice consolation prize.

Why the hell would Vegas do this? Makes zero sense.

The only way they would do it is if they get something better than what other teams were offering for Scandella/Dumba/Staal.

By next year wild will have about 25-26 million locked up in their top five d. They will most certainly trade one of their d. Whether it's tomorrow, later in their summer or later this year, one will be shipped out. I can guarantee that. That is a lot of cash locked in for five d. Think it'll he scandella or brodin but we'll see.
