The Expansion Draft

I know they wanted to get rid of Emelin but all of a sudden I'm looking at what they have on D and what's no longer coming up behind it, and I think that'd make me a little nervous as a Habs fan.

I wonder if the Leafs are after Methot. Wouldn't be my move, but he fits into the "lets spend for 2 years while we can" plan and is a solid vet that can you know can play the tough minutes. I could see Lou and Babs being all over that.

I hope not. That would be a pretty underwhelming move.

Not too crazy about the idea of paying Vegas to land an injury-prone, 32 year-old lefty defensive defenseman that takes up $5M in cap space for each of the next two years.

Yeah, it would be an underwhelming addition from a fan perspective, but he's basically a Polak that can actually play the tough minutes against the top lines. With no long term commitment.

Yeah, for the past couple years I've been wanting to dump Emelin's contract.

But if the rumours are true that we're not bringing Markov back, and with dealing Beaulieu and Sergachev, what's our LD right now? Benn, Davidson, and I guess Jerabek? I'm assuming we'll bring in some new guys, but none of those guys look like a top-4 talent, so that's not an easy task to fill those spots.

Is that true? I haven't heard anything. I figured he'd somehow find his way back there on a one year deal and then probably retire.

Then again, if I'm him, I'd like to have a chance of actually getting a Cup before I hang them up.

Unless teams want to test a goalie as a starter, how much trade value do you think a group of backups would net?

I think Vegas had the right idea about selecting a boatload of defencemen.. they can get a king's ransom if they corner the market.

He's spent the past four seasons playing with one of the best defensemen of all-time 80%+ of the time at even strength.

So how sure are we that he himself is actually capable of eating those tough minutes?

And if you wanted to sell me on the idea of surrendering significant trade assets and $10M worth of cap space over the next two years to acquire a defenseman, describing him basically as a left-handed Roman Polak wasn't really the best way to go about it.

..again, I really hope the team or league execs had the foresight to have cameras behind the scenes, because I'd love to see the thought process that went into putting together this expansion team.

..at the very least I'm expecting an book from Michael Lewis, with the potential for a Hollywood script.

Well I didn't say a left handed Polak. I said a Polak that is good enough to play shut down minutes. Which is kinda a big difference.

Also I'm not trying to sell you on anything. Just saying I could see Lou and Babs in on Methot.

Fair enough.

I'm just saying I hope they aren't, then.

I'd take his defense partner, though.

Looks like they passed on Mrazek, Grauber and Raanta.

Add Bellemare to your list of Vegas bound

Well at least for the people complaining about having to watch the award show, you'll probably get all your answers before it starts.
